89 Batmobile
Very cool site. This was a link sent to me by a friend in Japan. Batmobile body using cardboard or wood and foam, then fiberglass.

Re: 89 Batmobile
Well I'll be damned, a car made out of what looks like plywood. Lol, I wonder if it's street legal, a wooden car, I'd hate to ever have a fender bender with that thing.

Re: 89 Batmobile
Cool project.
If that was given a final coating of fiber glass would it help water proof / strengthen it?

Re: 89 Batmobile
I was planning on doing something VERY similar... but my design would involve me scanning a scale model of the car and then digitally slicing it so that you have basically a skeletal frame. You cut out those pieces to scale out of plywood and attach them to your frame. You fill in the "tweens" with carvable urethane foam and carve yourself a Batmobile using the skeletal pieces as a guide. Add detail and then fiberglass it...

Re: 89 Batmobile
Take a good look at the pics, they are using cardboard and luan plywood as a backer, adding foam, than carving the foam to shape. Looks as though they are taking the right approach. I wouldn't doubt that after the shape is done they will use that as a "buck" to make mold out of fiberglass, and than use that mold to make body pieces.

Re: 89 Batmobile
The method the person is using is the one-off method. Coat the finished mold or body with a release agent, cover it with fiberglass and pop the new body off. Another link for the foam construction method http://www.rqriley.com/frp-foam.html . For a 3-D rendering of the Batmobile in Lightwave go to this site http://www.chickslovethecar.com/default.asp .
