Grapnel Gun
As you might know, Im working on a Batman Fan Film. Well, anywho, I want to do a few shots with a grapnel gun and I would like to start building one. I want it to be like the one in the comics and BTAS.
Like this:
Anyways, I was wondering what you guys think I should make it out of. I would like it to shoot out one fake dart just 5-10 feet for close up shots. The rest are just gonna be composite shots so I dont need a full working one or anything[Almost Impossible]. I was thinking about basing it around a nerf gun like this.
Also, I would like to have a cgi shot. The shot looks kinda like the shot in the Matrix Reloaded where trinity is jumping backwards out the window. Except closer up so all you see is the gun going off in slow motion, the dart ejecting from the front and then a fire ball escaping aftewards.
Insight please. Im not very expreinced with cg or prop building.
Thanks

Re: Grapnel Gun
I had thought about using this NERF Blaster
I also plan to make one like in the books pic you posted
both would be more for show than work ability

Re: Grapnel Gun
The main reason I picked that nurf gun is because its really small and its really cheap. The whole thing can fit in your hand and it costs like 5 bucks. The way I think it would work is if i got for of them connected them together by heating them up. Then finding a tube that the four can fit in and stuffing them in there. Then running the air tubes out the back of the big tube and making a handle for it with a fake button on the end. Then have the air tubes run through that and down my arm then come out around my back and run the tube like 5 feet away out of the shot and have someone firing them off one at a time or something. Then for a super close up shot make it all cg. For the flash and flame I found a program that is used in conjuction with after effects to create small fire balls...I think this might actually work.

Re: Grapnel Gun
I just finished work on a grappler that I made out of those Snack N Go Doritos containers, a battery cleaner, Radio Shack buttons, watch batteries, and a furniture caster. I should have a pic in a couple of days (no digital camera, I'm soooo 20th century!). It doesn't work (of course), but it looks pretty good if I do say so.
