Re: batmobile replica questions

First off the WB contract is all-inclusive, If you violate any portion of the contract WB has the right to take back the vehicle and you get nothing in return. You also must maintain a one million-dollar insurance policy on the vehicle naming them as the beneficiary, so if any thing happens to the vehicle they are reimbursed and not you.

As for the patent, the term of the patent shall be generally 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States. All the Batmobiles were given 14 years. After the patent has expired anyone may make, use, offer for sale, or sell or import the invention without permission of the patentee, provided that matter covered by other unexpired patents is not used. The terms may be extended for certain pharmaceuticals and for certain circumstances as provided by law. Under certain circumstances, patent term extensions or adjustments may be available.

Check around many museums have several of these cars. Most were built by Jay and sold to them by Barris. One or two a year find a way up on the auction block, the last two I have seen sold for over one hundred thousand dollars. All the museum cars I have seen have all claimed to be screen used and numbered cars, which is untrue.

That really sux that you can buy the batmobile but not fully own it.

That reminds me of an old episode of the Drew Carrey show. Basically Drew won the batmobile only to have it taken away because he was making out with some lady in it. I thought those rules were a joke.............guess not :geez

Even if the patent expires and kits are available, it will still be a huge out of pocket expense to get one. I mean look how much the 60's batmobile kits go for.

It's just nice to know that if you have the money it would be attainable.

The 89 kit is actually much cheaper to purchase than the 66 kit. The build up is much more extensive that the 66, as many of the owners have found out first hand. The biggest problem is the lack of a build up manual. If you have access to one of Jay's cars, his are as close as it comes and he used many of the original aircraft components on the exterior of the vehicle. He did take liberties in the cockpit, which is understandable. I would have done the same.

PS: the patent on the 89 is non-renewable as is all the Batmobiles!
