Hi
The hidden driver is actually in the backseat - it's a bench located far enough back behind the 2 passenger seats that you can't see it. There is a control panel for driving and opening/closing the cockpit, in addition to a steering wheel.
Actually, there's not much room back there!

I asked Ted about this and he pointed out that you can only raise the car a certain amount before the body wheelwells would actually touch the tires. If you look at the side view of the tires, you can see how this might happen if the body were raised up too far.
