Batman Grappling Gun

Hey guys. I was fooling around a couple days ago with the idea of a working batman grappling gun. I was in my closet and I came across my co2 pistol. I was looking at it, pulled the trigger, and found there was no co2 left, so I put in a new cartridge, and pulled the trigger. A lot of power these babies have. So I kept playin, stuck a stick in the end and shot it out, it flew pretty far and hard. so I took the gun downstairs to my workshop, and tried to find something I could use as a grappling hook. No luck, so I just stuck a nail in the end with string attached to it and shot it across the room. It must have flown 15 or so feet. So I saw a pile of boxes and aimed at that. It went right in. I felt just like batman. This would be an excellent start for those looking to make a grappling gun. :signal

"You'll shoot your eye out kid!" :lol

Sorry couldn't help myself with a little quote from A Christmas Story.

Take great care in your little experiments. There's a lot of newspaper columns and television shows that love to talk about the stupid injuries that people inflict upon themselves (or others) by doing poorly thought out things.

Right Spiderfan11, whenever considering any Bat item that could conceivably work, great care, respect and self-discipline are necessary. Using CO2 power, a penetrating dart or hook is highly unlikely to hold much weight -- and a wrapping grappler like in the movies tends to violate the laws of physics. Only a wedging hook that could catch on something when pulling the line back might work, maybe looking a bit like this:

ive done this one adn build a rather good prototype but also destoryed it because it was too dangerous. co2 works ok to fire, but as apocalytop siad it doesnt really work well to hold u, in my prototype i also used co2 to pull it back in, another bad idea on my part cuz like apocalytop siad "henever considering any Bat item that could conceivably work, great care, respect and self-discipline are necessary" that was somethign i lacked at the time, and dident think about it flying back in my direction. luckly for me it stuck and pulled the prototype out of my hand.

my lastest idea isent to safe, but theres no way to make this prop real and stay completly safe but this time a little safer seeing as i will use the very costly motor to pull the user up. but that wont be made for about another 2 years.

It's a good idea. I wouldn't mind a working grapple gun. if I had the materials, I would try one out. Maybe a two piece set up, like the first one. I slow mo'd the scene where he shoots that guy, and hangs 'im over the edge in Axis, and it looks like the spear came out of one barrel, while the rope/chord was stored on the side, but I think that the intention of the movie was to have it all come out of the same barrel. I may have uncovered some movie magic there...

Did it actually stick you? Bad times... :fright :geez

Ok, I got to the alleyway section, and I think it is supposed to come out of a barrel on the side, whereas the spear is supposed to, it looks like, come out of the main barrel. I don't know. I wouldn't mind a tutorial...

Theres no tutorial on how to make a speargun/grapple for the simple reason that it cant be done on a movie size prop. You can make a larger bulky grapple that works as in the movie but it costs $$$$$$$$$$$.

Dude.
