Re: BTAS grappling hook gun

BBB, yeah, that's the problem I was having with everything. Most of the pictures I have seem to be from a few different episodes, and even within one epi. it seems to change.

To get an idea of scale, the valve is about an inch, so overall it's close to uh 6", yeah 6" is good. I don't have the drawings up here, they're in the workshop already.

I guess I could just build it as is, then swap off the barrel at some point since it will be a separate piece. Yeah. That's what I'll do.

If it turns out good maybe I'll tackle the other animated grap gun...maybe. I was also toying with the idea of some mini-rang launchers that would fit into the gauntlet, along the lines of Azbats.

Re: BTAS grappling hook gun

you saw my list of what I have going on :banghead

I did make some progress, got the balsa cut out to make sure my numbers work in the real world as well as the computer. Have to change a couple of things, but the pneumatics fit snugly, which is a good thing. The animated version is going well, now that I finally have time to get it done. Going to buy some bass wood to make the version that'll get molded. I just don't like the idea of cutting acrylic on my table saw, especially when quite a few of the pieces are less then 1/2", some only 1/4" I've grown accustomed to 10 fingers.

If all goes smoothly the rest of the way out, I should have it put together this week.

Watch for pics soon!

Re: BTAS grappling hook gun

Looking for someone with a lathe who can make a part for me. Email if anyone's up for it. posted a little more info over on LOH in the trading post let's see if I can link to it...
Try this link

Also, here's some new pics and info

Image

The purple piece is being removed, the underlying pieces will be extended. The green "circles" will be the screw holes, they will be where the parts connect

Image

The black dot here is about where the fitting for the hose will pass through, it's either there or on the bottom. if it's there it'll hide for right handed people, and the hose can be run between the fingers and up the outside of the arm to the air source. I'm debating making a piece that will snap into place to cover the hole. I may have to make it a two part thing that would require the gun to be opened up to be installed. If I do decide to go that route, I'll be able to put 3 holes, one on both left and right sides, as well as one in the bottom. That way all holes can be covered, and all possible owner's will be happy.

Also of note in this pic is the green ink on the bottom of the part to the right. I'm still debating doing something like that since the handle is rather plain and a little boring. What do you think? You can see that pieces 13 and 17 will be extended 1/8" to replace the purple colored part (#5) which I decided to do away with.

Image

A decent shot of the inside of the gun. You can see red on the edges in some areas, this will be where "vents" will be placed in the mold to allow parts to fully fill. You can see some green towards the top, that section of that part will be trimmed away to make a little more room for the button to fire the gun. The parts sticking up out of the part on the right will be where the halves join with screws. They will be threaded and the screw will pass into them, 6 places in total for the handle. The barrel will fit into the "boxes" pointing outwards, and will connect with 4 screws itself.

Image

A shot of the pneumatics in place inside the handle. VERY snug fit on that, especially in the spot where the barrel will connect.

Anyway, that's what's up with that right now. It's coming together. Like I said, this version was to make sure all my numbers did work in the real world, to get a feeling for how small things would actually be and how well it'd go together. I'll make another version out of wood which will be as perfect as I can get it. I'll use that one to make a mold, and the final castings. I got some 1/8" thick circles made out of wood at pat catans the other day, I have to cut them in half to use them for the barrel, but at least I don't have to make them from scratch.

I'll probably start on the final version this weekend.

I really am an idiot sometimes...scratch what I said about that purple piece.... lack of sleep makes for mistakes.

Crazy, damn skippy, that's me. Anyway, it's not that hard, like most of the stuff you see here, you just have to play around with it a little to get a feel for it. After this I'm going to do another that's a little more cosmetically interesting shall we say.

want to know more about pneumatics, just go to www.clippard.com and request a catalog. It's a lot like plumbing, just putting hoses, tubes, pipes, and valves together. Maybe that's over simplifying it a little bit, but really for something this basic that's about all that's involved.

anyway, final version of the rendering a BOTB exclusive

If you look close, you can see that the barrel "mount" is now thinner then the handle, and also added the button to fire the thing in there. Anyway, I'm off for a nap then going to start on the final master to mold. Once I get it built, I'll add the parts list breakdown for ALL pieces to the webpage, as well as a little bit of info on the molding process and pictures for anyone who wants to build their own. I won't post back on this until I have the master done.

I have a friend that is an brass instrument repair man. Check out his site at http://www.deharohorns.com/ Tell him you're a friend of mine (Tony Licata) and maybe he can help out if he's not too busy with his normal work. He is really good with a lathe and makes the majority of things he needs for his repairs in his shop!

Of course if he helps, you have to make me one at a discount! PLEASE :pray :pray emoticon

OK, well the master isn't "done" but the handle's 95+ % done. The master barrel's getting done tomorrow, had to call it a day after 14 straight hours to watch Kim Possible (which had a nice '89 batman homage in the beginning scene, the balloon shot with the plane emoticon , and yeah, I'm a dork)

OK, so the master barrel gets cut and glued tomorrow, handle gets a little bit of patching and some more sanding to wrap it up. Then wrap up the barrel on Monday probably, molding early to mid week.

I still have to figure out the spool for some line, size and space are at a premium. The hook will be this week too, probably have to do some kind of folding section on it or keep it on the small size.

I'll check out that site, if I can't get it made I can live with what I have set up. I he can do it, you'll be the first contacted.

Anyway that's where we're at.
