That's incredible, great work. You've captured the animated aspect brilliantly, can't wait to see some action shots emoticon

 :embarassed

I'm glad it's well received by the bat community. I made a few boxes to hold some stuff, no big. When I get up there and can do stuff like the Bob's (Dullam Causey) then you can praise me. Until that happens, I'm just a guy looking for paying FX work in Cleveland, Ohio and barely squeaking by.

I put up the how to, (well, parts, cut, and pneumatics) to give something back for all the great info I've found online over the years that has got me to this point. I did go to school for fx, but 75% has come since then just doing it and looking for info, so trying to put some out there for people willing to look.

I'd rather get ripped apart on stuff because I know where every little flaw is. Anyway, I got a meeting to go to and mold to make.

btw, I love that sig, it's hilarious.

Tom this is impressive design-build work. I've no doubt it's a powerful first step toward more refined versions to come. It's the way of things around this 'ol cave, so you should go ahead and make a grappling hook strong enough to hold a big guy like you. I'm also hoping you'll use fine cable and spring loading like in big tape measures or something.

Tom, once you get the thing working, you should post some video somewhere(in addition to whatever film its being used for) of the thing in action. That would be wicked. :)

However, I have a couple concerns for practicality of a real functioning one, and until these 2 issues are solved I can't see it being anything more than an extremely cool, semi-functional prop.

I highly doubt you could pack enough cable in something so small, with enough strength to lift someone, even a lightweight such as myself. I mean, I was looking at steel rope at Home Depot a few days ago, and the stuff which is rated for weight even as small as my weight is pretty thick. Even 10 feet of it would be pushing the storage capacity of that gun. However, there's one upcoming technology that may solve this issue(but its still a ways off): milking spider-silk from goats. That would be awesome once spider-silk cables could be packed in a grappling gun. :up Those things could lead to EXTREMELY strong cables. emoticon

Also, I've never seen a motor that would fit in such a small device, AND have high enough torque to lift someone at a decent rate.

I'm going to Pat, probably on my site and I'll be sure to link to it.

I'm really only concerned with about 30 feet or travel or there abouts for the movie, anything else is asking too much. The line and how it plays out will probably have some effect on it, so still have to fool around a little with that.

Apoc, love to, but time, money, and space constraints will probably win out and movie magic will have to take over, at least for now. More refinements, probably, at least at some point. Always have to keep learning new stuff. :)

Ace1384's doing a fan film in WOOSTER, Ohio (happy ace, I didn't say Mansfield area :wink ) It's about an hour south by slow car. I'm not sure how much I can reveal, so just leave it at that.

Not too sure of time frame, I'm just trying to get it done and figure out what's next. emoticon
