Re: Making a working '89 Batarang...updated pics pg. 3

Ok...I had some problems with one of the molds. I don't know why,but it was just a bowl of slimey mush. The other three are fine and I used the same mixture, etc.,but whatever. I had just enough to do one more.
Anyway,I'm delayed until tomorrow cause it's molding it again.
Also,I had problems with the resin. This is why I don't do this crap because it causes endless frustration and the constant loss of money...which I don't have. I mixed it exactally as it said to and used black tint for resin...the exact amount it called for. It's supposed to take 15 mins. but it was just a pile of goo,so I waited over an hour and it didn't change. So I didn't use as much tint the second time ands it's gray, plus it's a little soft. It cured ok,but it can bend a little...I don't like that.
HELP!!! What am I doing wrong?

On the plus side,I think the hinge idea should work. I did cast half a rang and messed around a little. HOPEFULLY,it should work. Heres a couple of teaser pics...

I love the metal on there, that is great!!! Looks good. I don't have any experience with these things, but from what I can tell you are really doing a great job with it all... If you had posted and said "I am the man, and I can do whatever I want with this stuff, and I just didn't mold the other part because my assistant had to go work on a movie shoot..." From the pics, I'da believed you. Looks good to me!!! Again, love the metal!

nice work! Tell me, about how thin is the rang unfolded, at its thinnest(and at it's thickest)? Also, what kind of sheet metal are you using for the blade inserts at the tips?

I'm asking because I'm planning on making some rangs for myself out of double-ply birchwood. And sculpting the raised details out of modelbuilder's sheet styrene.

It is 1/4" thick at it's thinnest and less than 1/2" thick in the joint areas.
once I'm finished I'll have some more detailed shots of how everything was done.

sounds to me john like the resin is old or the tint has turned

try mixing up enough for one of the small wings and dont add the tint
then you'll know if its the tint or the resin

sounds like the resin though
