Evilgenius Batarang Template Instructions & Diagrams
hey gang,
Here are some shots of the batarang I am building for Evilgenius to use in his film.
The pictures below represent one nights worth of work.
This first image shows the paper template made in order to make sure all of my measurements were to scale.
I then cut out my first layer of sheet styrene.
More layers of styrene are added to create the insets and to prepare for the bevels.
Note that the paper template has been cut to use as a guide for the next layer of details.
At this stage I have added bevels to the top edge of the rang by using the flat edge of the exacto knife.
Care was taken to not over carve the edge and distort the curve of the top edge of the rang.
Here you see that I am using 2 part plumbers epoxy smoothed with Vicks VapoRub to creat the blade edge bevels. There is still a long way to go before this is finished. Tonight I will finish the blade edges and then a mold will be made in silicone in order to cast a second half and mate the two together to make a double sided batarang. Mrbats, if you could email me, i will need your help doing the hinge for the hero piece.
Gonna wet sand the surface and superclean all of the bevels, after that its mold time. If there is interest I will take pics of the molding process and share that as well.

Awesome work Mike!
I'd like to use that design for some 'rangs for myself. If it's alright with EG. :wink

Wow, that is freakin' rad. I'm normally not all into the weapons & gadgets, but I really love that design. Can't wait to see it finished! Keep us posted on your progress. :)

Re: Batarang Build for Evilgenius progress pics
The Vicks works great for helping smooth out the epoxy putty. It thins the putty a little and helps keep it from sticking to your fingers as you shape and smooth it.
