C02 Powered Grappling Gun
It occurred to me that the most common device we see in action movies doesn't really exist although you'd think they would-
A c02 powered grappling gun that shoots out a grappling hook with high tension wire.
I thought maybe it was something you'd find on survival gear sites for mountain climbing or police supply for SWAT teams.
It doesn't look like it would be impossible to engineer (although I am not bright enough to).
But nada.
So much for buying one.

Re: C02 Powered grappling gun... do any really exist?
they make a 22 powder peton pin gun
suppose you could mod it if you like
but the problem is getting the velocity to remain over anything more then a short distance as obviously it comming into contact with anything will stop it or greatly slow it down
and you could use a high tensile garat wire but it would'nt sustain more then the average wieght and doubtful it could take the impact of say ropin a train like in the last film....or maybe it could if it tore your arm off so it didn't have so much to drag along
:beatup
thanks for finally getting carlos his gloves
better really really really late then never~

Re: C02 Powered grappling gun... do any really exist?
The Crosman 2250 series on this Website might be used for starters, without the rifle stock and scope, and GREATLY modified by a professional (it's not designed to shoot pitons and lines, only pellets) to look and perform something like the Begins grappling gun (shooter only, not winch). The 2250XT is one of the most powerful .22-calibre hand-size types, and would also probably require relocating the CO2 cartridge. But harpooning through walls that could bear load is hardly likely:

Our own Clevelandfx also tried building a gun that looked like the Animated Series shooter, but it didn't seem to have much umph:

Re: C02 Powered grappling gun... do any really exist?
Yeah, wasn't intended as a real world. I'd love to be able to miniaturize one, but I think the "off the shelf" technology for these would have you looking like any of the batman toys that come with a grappling hook, something like this.
Years back I saw a grappling hook launcher that was spring loaded, essentially it was one of those Russian shootings knives. It would carry a line up a floor or two, but was meant to haul up a larger rope.
I think to make it anywhere near as small as the movies you'd need it to be a rail gun kind of thing. Give it a few years. :ohwell
Got pics of that piton thingy?

Is the piton gun for real or James Bond? Believe it or not, the CIA once contacted a James Bond film production company, requesting the source of the underwater (Batman-like) mini-breather. Of course, the production company told the CIA the device was just a prop.

Jokerscrowbar-
Now THAT's what I'm talking about.... very cool, how did you find it?
Combining that with a high powered spring loaded device to rewind the wire would accomplish the same purpose of what we've seen in the movies.

OH, I thought we were talking small items, that's just a line launcher. Essentially uses an air cylinder as a rocket. I really wouldn't put it in quite the same category.

Re: C02 Powered grappling gun... do any really exist?
Yes, the grappling gun in the movie seemed to launch the line and there was some spring loaded device on the belt buckle that either acted as a line rewind or connector attached to the belt that allowed him to get pulled by that monorail.
I guess "grappling gun" was a generic term I was using for the line launcher.

Thats about the cheapest useable launcher and there are also man-lifter winches, but they are still too heavy and expensive.
