Steel Batarangs - Pics
Hey guys, I heard about this site a long time ago, and thought I should stop lurking and make a post.
I'll save the story and research and let the pictures speak for themselves:
Taken at Comic Con, the hero 'rang:
Taken at a Toronto display, 2 hero 'rangs. The red outline is the shape of my Batarang (how close is it? ):
The varying versions of Batarangs I've gone through. From bottom up: V3 (7ga steel), V2 (7ga steel), V1(11ga steel), V1-proto(11ga steel)
Same setup as the above (but the sizes are distorted due to angle... the V3 isn't that much larger, as you can tell from the next 2 pics):
V3 on top (V3 ears are there, but they're hard to make out due to glare. V1 ears/head is way off):
V3 on bottom:
So there you have it.
I've had the opportunity to go out and toss a few around with the mild winter. Man, I don't even think I need to say how much fun it was. The V3 is very heavy, and when it hits square on the target, THUNNNK!!! There's nothing like it.
The V3 is identical to the hero one from shape and size down to how it was made (industrial laser). If you look at the picture with the red outline, in the upper 'rang, you can make out a black, burnt outline. This is the laser scorching the steel. It makes bi-leveled jagged cuts along the entire border (without which it's not screen accurate!).
Okay, well, I thought I'd share. Time to fight crime. :batman

Re: Batarang: steel monster...
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. It's also good to see so many familiar people here!
Brin, as of 4:45pm CST today, I have a feeling you will be doing lots of target practice soon.
James and Tony--haven't poked out an eye yet, have you? :sick
As for the Batarangs, yes, I made them--several versions actually, until they were perfect. Basically, there were many variations made (look at the scene where they show his workshop table, and you'll see different sizes/shapes scattered around) but the one I made is the one he grinds, then after Alfred walks in, he whips it at the wooden beam (close up!).
It's 6.25" long, .179 thick (.0085/.007125 variance on the .171875/.1875 differences). Bla bla bla, lots of details later = Version 3.
What other 'rangs have been made here? I'd love to see them. Post your pics!
