Cardboard '89 Boot Armor Tutorial
Thanks to Dave for giving me the measurements.
I couldn't match them exactly, but here is my attempt to make some worthy '89 boot armor on a budget. Here is a tutorial on how I made these out of items from the hardware store...
Using a really dense cardboard tube (normally used for pouring concrete in to make concrete poles & stuff) and a utility knife with a really sharp fresh blade, I cut out a 12x12 section. The cardboard was so dense that it was hard to cut even with a fresh blade (enough to make 2 of them).
Then cut that section into two 12x6 pieces. Then drew & cut the basic shape out, trying to stay as close to the measurements as I could.
I cut the upside down V shapes separately (man those were hard to cut).
Then glued the V shapes onto the shin guards & sprayed a few coats of Plasti Dip on them.
I know they aren't symmetrical, but it's my first shot at this... I like the one on the left better then the one on the right.
Next step to make them more durable I was thinking of sealing them by brushing on a few coats of transparent resin to make them nice, hard & more durable.
What do you guys think?

They have this stuff at Michaels for $20.00 its to vials of clay that when combined it makes a latex molding compound that stiffens in less than 10 minutes I got some locally and was amazed at what it can do. not sure of the name of it but it's by the baby hand molding stuff :up

The originals were made of leather so have you thought about glueing some pleather to them- I'm not saying this would be easy but it would look great.
