Alternatives to Plasti Dip

I wanted to refinish my suit but have never been a big fan of Plasti Dip. Figured there must be something else that'd work so a while back Googled rubber/latex paint and found tire paint from Miller Tire.

http://www.millertire.com/repairs.asp

This stuff is great! No spray cans to clog up, no nauseating odor. Dries in a half-hour to satin finish. Here are some pics from this afternoon after I painted my cowl:

Next I'll be doing my armor, belt and gauntlets (all latex) and may even try it on my leather boots.

A bottle will last a lifetime. You mix the paint with water 50/50, and a little will go a LONG way.

While I'm here and speaking of suits, this might be a good undersuit for those of you who like shiny:

I'd like to hear more about how it works out after stretching, and wearing the cowl for an extended amount of time.
Interesting.

SB: What happened was, I cut some vents in it. Trouble was, thick latex is a b**** to cut. Besides, if the vents do any good at all I've yet to prove it.

'Interesting find.
If they have it in flat black I may be using it next year.

You can make a small blue ice pack to wear on your back under your cape for some bonus cooling for a couple of hours at night.
Just be sure to not have the blue ice pack in direct contact with your skin.
Same thing done at ren faire, when people are wearing heavy armor in 85 degrees for jousting.

Way to go with vents. You'll find they're easier to cut with cuticle scissors. Once you firmly push one blade through, they cut fine - especially Solingen brand made in Germany.

His cowl is way too thick to cut using cuticle scissors.
You need to use the Dremel rotary tool to get more uniformed cuts.

Zane: I wish I'd sent you the cowl and had you do the cutting! :) Brin's right, though, the latex in this cowl is almost .25" thick in some places. I tried several different types of scissors (including cuticle) and it was tough going. Hence my cuts are far from elegant unlike yours.

Jedi: I just used a regular ol' paintbrush. The bottle directions say you can use a cloth, sponge, etc. There are no brush marks on the cowl after it was painted.

This afternoon I painted my Xtreme glove gauntlets with the tire paint.
