Cowl Lenses - Pics

Thanks to all for input on another thread, regarding lenses and/or mesh for the Apoc Cowl's eyes.
http://com1.runboard.com/bbrotherhoodofthebat.f4.t198304

Following advice on that thread, I went ahead and got glasses with interchangeable lenses. Using the dark gray lenses plain, and double-stick-taping mesh onto clear ones, cutting 1/8" wide strips of tape, and taping only along lens perimeters. But Velcroing the two frame sections inside the cowl didn't strike me as secure enough, so I went ahead and superglued the bluish-purple lenses I already had from $6 safety glasses. Here's how it came out (with lenses reflecting nearby stuff):

Image

The clear lenses with mesh on them are narrower than the installed safety-glasses lenses, so the meshed lenses could still be ds-taped onto the dark ones. But I'm very satisfied with the installed lenses and their unobstructed view, so don't plan to do that.

Additionally, you are seeing only the primary latex cowl without the 2nd-piece, lower artistic cowling for more secure anchoring and 180-degree head swiveling. Brin and I are currently engineering the lower cowling and rotating interface with the upper, overlapping cowl. The goal is to optimize an efficient and elegant solution. So stay tuned!

Once again, thanks to Bros and Sis' for all your good input and advice. Any interested melon-heads who are not lookie-lous or tire-kickers can e-mail me (please, no PMs) at intraverse@earthlink.net.

And venting is real, BTW, with even added ones along the rising cheek ridge since this pic.

Thanks guys, it's been quite a project, and with more to come! Until the lower cowling is done, my Avatar pic is an example of wearing the cowl (with eye mesh rather than lenses).

The cowl holds the following e-K armor and electronics, weighs 4 lbs, and in reality goes on and off as easily as what was faked in Batman Begins. No binding in slipping one's head through the neck section.

On completion, the whole functional suit will also include the e-K-armored and vented, leather jacket shown above. The leather pants also now have 98 1/2" x 1" vents in the back parts of the legs, from knees to below butt, while leaving the black satin lining untouched.

Re: It's gonna be LENSES!

Form follows function. The Nomex balaclava protects the face by resisting fire as well as caustic sprays and liquids. The lenses also protect, though not so effectively against flame.

The overall impression intentionally follows a primal goal of rendering the Bat Suit weird and chilling, including realistic protection, rather than simply handsome cosmetics and nice fakery. It's a functioneering concept foreign to most hobby boards focusing on appearance and illusion. BE VERY AFRAID.
