'89 Emblem Velcro
I'm testing out how I want to have the chest emblem attach to the cowl via Velcro and was wondering if anyone knew, on the original 89 suit, which velcro side goes to which part?
My guess is the fabric side goes on the cowl and the plastic "hook" side goes on the back of the emblem.
Also in a different thread it was mentioned that the oval area on the cowl wasn't part of the cowl scuplt and is added on seperately? I think someone mentined latexed canvas perhaps.
Any other details or opinions considering this line of thought or where this tidbit of trivia came from?

I believe that what you're actually seeing are earth magnets. Velcro would come off to easily during filming but the mags would stay on until you got the jaws of life on them.

The two round shapes in the center of the oval are simply screws that connect the cowl to the cape and chest. I do believe that an under harness is also connected if I remember correctly from an old discussion. There are also smaller screws running along the perimeter of the oval as well. It seems like over kill to me but they must have found it nessesary at the time I suppose.
The use of velcro on this part is pretty well established I believe... of course I could be wrong.

Magnets would be a great idea but my understanding is that it was velcro as Nick says.

It was Velcro, and I don't think it really matters which side you use.
I always put the "fuzzy" side on the emblem itself.

the harness was used because the of the weight of the cape..it was nessesary because during wardrobe tests when Keaton moved his body to turn the cape would eventually just come right ioff his body, hence the harness with all the screws...
as for the velcro, I have seen 89 cowls with both the emblem void removed and with it attached...the one with the attached emblem void didn't have any vecro, however it did have some crusty glue like residue that may have been used to glue some velcro onto it... I know that different cowls were made but if the voidless emblem cowls were used it's tough to say

Are there still no pics of the base harness that everything attaches to?
I remember an old discussion that went down these lines that never produced any pics of this elusive contraption.
