Re: Bat Speargun/Grapnel/Winch
Reality Check strikes again MUWHAHAHAHA...you'd need one of the BIG copters to haul a hook up, BUT that's some cool thinking there TJ.
What if you made the HOOK the blades, add a very high speed motor to spin it up to speed, have a trigger that would release it and on the end a bearing that would prevent the line from spinning...just have to watch out for small birds and your hands...should you ever need to cut your way through a jungle you could just use it instead of carrying another gadget too.

Re: Bat Speargun/Grapnel/Winch
Reality Check and his untrustworthy side-kick Wet Blanket, The Debunknic Duo.
Could be worse, like Bottmon and Rubbin,The Dyslexic Doh!
I guess we need to settle on a specific hook and find a weight for it before getting in to which rotor design would work best.
We have all seen the carbon fibre ones that weigh less than 1kg (2.2lb) and I doubt that kevlar would be any lighter.
I don't know if you can stack 5 sets of double rotors on top of each other for extra lift or if that would just create a vortex that would push the whole thing down.
One set of big rotors would be too wide to get close to anything so lots of smaller ones would be best and would mean that you dont need a stabilising tail tailplane.
I think it's worth looking into though.
Your ideas OK but you won't be able to recover it.

Re: Bat Speargun/Grapnel/Winch
I found an interesting mini-grapple hook a few minutes ago.
Take a look and see what you think.

Re: Bat Speargun/Grapnel/Winch
I'm along the lines with what TJ's getting at. It'd have to be something that hooks, rather than burries itself onto/into a surface.
For a crimefighter to continuously damage the architecture of the city he/she's trying to protect, you'd wind up with one hefty bill from the depertment of maintenance each month. :lol
And think of the crap that Spiderman leaves around the city! :surprise Spider webs don't deteriorate very quickly either. Those suckers'll just hang around forever, leaving the city all filty and full of Spiderman webbing. Ick!

A hundred feet hun? now there's something that could be very interesting, if for example combined with the BB grapple HenryWayne is making...(even though the rocket is harmless foam).

Re: Bat Speargun/Grapnel/Winch
Ok, Loving this thread big time so, here's my .02 cents.
What about trying to incorportate what we currently into a more-realistic design like say...the grapple gun thats used on "the Batman" cartoon?
I'm not the one to go with nay-sayersm but ClevFx does have a lotta good points int he realism dept. the gun maybe a bit bulky yeah, but perhaps easier to work with asthetic-wise.
Of course, maybe i'm just going for looks instead of practicality? :huh
Thought or suggestions?
