Re: The elusive cape harness
The further ten screws are needed to secure the two cape plates to the cavity plate. If you didn't have the second plate the two cape plate halfs would push into the foam body armour and buckle, everything would then move out of position.

so actually you would have a plate between the chest armor and the cape plate? like this....
(<->) <--emblem/cowl flap
(*_*) <--left side cape plate
(*_*) <--right side cape plate
(*_*) <--plate with holes
(o_o) <--chest armor with holes

Re: The elusive cape harness
Looks like I have lots to learn! I guess I will try the plastic method. Sorry I have done autobody in the past and still have a propensity for steel :) But I will go down to the hobby store here and see what they have. Thanks John! Hey, do you think it would be reasonable to do full plates for each cape half, in which case I could use 2 med. size screw holes?

Re: The elusive cape harness
As for the order of the sandwiching,I believe there is also a plate that goes over the cowl flap---the final gasket piece that has the velcro for the emblem. I'm not sure, but even if not,I'm going to be making it like that just because I think it would be better.
As for the metal plate,it could be done. You would just have to have the knowledge and tools of someone like Jeremy/BatGuano.
I'm sure this would be an easy task for him.
I was going to commission him to do it if the plastic idea didn't work out,but it did and it works flawlessly,so there was no need.
Sorry Jeremy. :lol
However,I'm sure this is something someone like him could offer. Sets of cape emblem plates in thin aluminum for the different suits---2 solid plates, and a set of 'half' plates---to go with whatever harness idea someone might have. Just simply incorporate the plate into the harness.
Perfectly cut,perfectly shaped,perfectly drilled.
Not trying to put Jeremy on the spot, just saying it could be done and I was using him as an example of someone who was capable. :lol

I'm not sure what you mean.
Two overlapping full plates?

Re: The elusive cape harness
Yeah, exactly! I just think it would be even stronger that way and easier to apply without help, just get all the plates sandwiched together then start screwing! the little half-plates just seem smaller and more susceptible to breakage if the cape is really heavy?

Re: The elusive cape harness
It's not that it wouldn't work,but it's isn't necessary.
With the halves,it lines up and is flush. The other way one would be on top of the other.
The halves are VERY secure. It's not necessary to go overboard here.
It's not the materials used, but the way it's put together. Everything is locked and nothing will break or bend or come loose or anything.
The center hole and five perimeter holes keep it exactly in place for that half. The other half stays the same way and this is all you need.
Rule number 1:
Don't think too much about it.
It's a very simple concept that should stay simple. Anything more is taking an easy situation and making it more complicated.:wink

Re: The elusive cape harness
I can do these out of metal if john will be kind enough to send me the pattern via email.
This harnes Idea is a great Idea, I bet it takes alot of weight off the back!

I didn't really use a pattern.
Basically, all that needs to be done is trace the desired emblem.
What I did was made the oval piece on the harness slightly larger than the actual emblem.
Not much, maybe a quarter inch all the way around.
So I traced it,then cut it at a slight distance outside the line, but still following it.
Then I made one oval just slightly smaller than the emblem(but I'll be making a second to cover the flap),maybe an eighth inch or less all the way around. Just ever so slightly smaller so the emblem would cover it.
Two should be made--one for the cape, cut in half, and one to cover everything as the top piece.
The holes were basically just my best eye. I didn't really measure anything.
Did one, drilled it,then used that for a template for the others.
Marked and drilled the holes, then cut it in half for the cape.
The emblem shapes would be 89 and Returns, which are basically the same, the Panther emblem, and the Clooney Panther/OnStar emblem.
Five Batsuits total.
But there's really only three shapes.
Is the Clooney and Kilmer Panther emblems the same shape?
I know they're different designs, but are the sizes and shapes the same?
If so,that's only two shapes.
There's no 'set in stone' placement for the holes. Just center the two in the middle, and put the others where they seem right.
Nothing to it:wink

Re: The elusive cape harness
Should be even easier with the photos I've posted. At least two of them are head on shots so making a template with the screw holes in the right place should be a doddle. :wink
