I cut the foot off of an old superman costume thats no good, and made it a tube i could fit on my arm. First i tested spraying the lycra with plastidip, just to see if it would hold and or make a mess. Well it did both a bit, the mess was just that the lycra was red and not dyed well, it ran some onto the paper tube i put inside the spandex tube when i sprayed it. If i did black with some plastidip i wouldnt have to spray it as much either. Next i cut and super glued 2 strips of 2mm foamies onto the tube lining them up directly next to one another, so there was only a slightl crack noticeable. I sprayed with plasti dip (since i used white foamies) and let it dry. After dry the tube was awesome. Definitely shows me i can make some leg armor EASILY and make it looks great with this method. I ordered 10 sheets of 2mm black foamies at 12x18 last night. Im going to cut and glued it all down onto my lycra suit in the same leg pattern as the real begins legs. Luckily they are pretty flat in shape, so it should look great. I was origoanlly just going to glue on the front, but the foamies flexes so nicely, and even when i try to crease it when plastidiped.... no major crease is ever perminant. I will keep u all posted on my progress with this. First step is to look at all the shots of the legs and make template pieces. I will also spray the sheets with the plastidip before glueing, i just did it the other way for my test because... well it was just a test lol. Im making the full legs (minus the butt), and my knees this way. Im also thinking to do the forearms and calves as well too. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Indakin)Wed, 18 Jun 2008 14:10:43 +0000 Re: foamies suit *FINISHED!*https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2096007,from=rss#post2096007https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2096007,from=rss#post2096007yeah if I could afford to get new tights whenever, then I'd have glued them down. Unfortunately my budget restraints require that I use these tights for whatever I need them for. So... for now I will just have to keep using loose armour. When I can afford new tights I'll glue a pair down though. I'm mostly just hesitant because of the failure of my first leg armour attempt...nondisclosed_email@example.com (MixMasterMike12)Tue, 17 Jun 2008 18:12:51 +0000 Re: foamies suit *FINISHED!*https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095974,from=rss#post2095974https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095974,from=rss#post2095974This is exactly how I made the legs for my brothers Robin a couple years ago. I glued mine onto the pants tho. It stopped any buckling. This is a decent, quick alternative if someone is in a crunch. You did a good job on yours. :up nondisclosed_email@example.com (Shadowbat69)Tue, 17 Jun 2008 15:39:48 +0000 Re: foamies suit *FINISHED!*https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095973,from=rss#post2095973https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095973,from=rss#post2095973Hey everyone. I've gotten a few questions regarding my legs in particular so I thought I'd post a drawing I made when designing them(because I forgot to take progress pictures while constructing them :geez ) to maybe help those people get a better idea of what i did. Hope this helps! It just so happened that one sheet was long enough that I could cut the shape I needed to cover the space I wanted for my leg. This may not work for everyone, as I am not a very big guy. This design was made with MY suit in mind, but can easily be adapted to accommodate your own needs. This idea is nothing new and I don't take any credit for it as I only used the ideas of others when putting my own design together. nondisclosed_email@example.com (MixMasterMike12)Tue, 17 Jun 2008 15:37:16 +0000 Re: foamies suit *FINISHED!*https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095468,from=rss#post2095468https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2095468,from=rss#post2095468Quote:bat texan wrote: You have truly become the Foamie Master! Cape came today along with clips, the finishing piece to my suit! Hope to have pics up tonight with it all on! Oh and just in the way of updating. It has been a while since i updated any progress on this suit. I scrapped the legs seen in the last pic and the legs seen in the new pic are completely new. You'll also see that i now have boots. I went to my local home depot, picked up a pair of rubber work boots, cut along the back seam, added industrial strength Velcro, and took up the slack. I think they turned out pretty good. I also got a hold of some black Eastbay compression tights. There, now I've covered myself lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (MixMasterMike12)Thu, 12 Jun 2008 22:25:30 +0000 Re: foamies suit build (Need help with cape decision)https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2089333,from=rss#post2089333https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2089333,from=rss#post2089333Your suit looks amazing!! You would have to make it so that theres two layer of fabric sewn together so theres velvet in the inside as well because of more tear resistance and less stretchiness. This suggestion is for a begins style cape. Remember I'm only twelve but know a lot more then some bat-fans here know. How many suits are you planning to make? I'm finishing my 4th right now.
