Bob Dullam Tumbler build progress pics.
I only have the push pull rods of the rear air foils in place. The goal is to have the air foils function like this:
1. all air foils move in unison.
2. each row of upper air foils move 2 at a time.
3. three on each side of upper air foils move together. 3 left, and/or 3 right.
4. each air foil moves independent of any other air foil.
hatch now opens automatic.

Re: 5 of the 8 tumbler air foils done and in place
I can't remember off the top of my head, it was the spring of 05' when I got those. But that's the least of the problem. the big thing is getting the rear axel modified to the right length compensating for the backspacing and the disc brakes in the inside of the rims. i.e. it all has to fit together so that the space between the inside rubber of the rear wheels looks like the same spacing as the original. otherwise the rear afterburner may look cramped. one big massive massive puzzle, going in every direction you can think of.

Re: 5 of the 8 tumbler air foils done and in place
ya, every kind of stress you can think of.
I used drawn over mandrell tubing, and rect. tubing as well. looking at the S.E. dvd, I just basically put tube where they did, and rect. tube where they did. This car is like massive organized chaos. say you build a part of the chassis or body. say that just in being human and having human error, the part is 1/8" off somewhere. no big deal of and by itself. now say it's the same error on several parts. add that up, and it could be an inch off down the line which can be disasterous. Each part has to be soo accurate in 50 directions all at once.
I have to add this. this week as I did the rear air foils, I was nashing my teeth about the bar that holds those air foils. it is supposed to sag slightly, from the rear, and then at the same time, lean in towards the front of the car. And each side has to always be an exact mirror of the other side. I didn't think I was gona get it right visually, but somehow I did. Many times througout this build, I felt as though it could easily end up a mess, but it turned out pretty good. Am on the downhill side of it now. whew..

Re: 5 of the 8 tumbler air foils done and in place
ya my build will be starting in about 2 months so the swampers are my big problem right now. ive been lurking cltc for long enough now that me and my fellow builders are ready to go. all of us combined will produce some sweet man power. but you might wanna be prepared for some questions
