Urethane Straps for the Henry Wayne Working Panther Buckle
OK guys and gals. I know this has been a long time coming so without further explanation here's what I've come up with.
As far as I'm concerned other than actually getting these things to the fine people that have been so patiently waiting this project is complete. What you see is what you get.
Now for the "tutorial", here goes... First you'll have to remove at least 3, if not all five, of the screws Henry has installed in the buckle here.
Then you’ll have to drill or punch 3 to 5 holes into the urethane straps (you’ll see an indentation in the straps where you need to put the holes) to accommodate the screws you’ll use to attach them to the buckle.
Then using longer screws than supplied with your buckle you’ll need to attach the straps.
(I have not had any luck identifying the correct screws so I will not be able to provide them with the straps. My own buckle will likely be re-drilled and re-tapped to accept different more standard screws).
Once the straps are attached to the buckle you’ll need to wrap them around your waist and have an assistant identify how much space you’ll have between the ends of the straps. In some cases the straps may be too long and should be trimmed to the length you require using a sharp razor blade or exacto™ knife.
Once you have the straps trimmed or have identified how much space will be between the ends of them it’s time to attach the backplate/cover. You’ll need to turn over the backplate/cover and apply a suitable adhesive where indicated in this pic.
Then you’ll have to install the strap ends into the backplate/cover and hold them in place till the adhesive cures. I like to use Bondini Everything Gel or Zap a Gap as these are instant glues with gap filling properties and work very well with the urethane the straps are made from.
Of course there are also urethane adhesives available from both Polytek.com (where I get the urethane) and smoothon.com.
Once you’re finished you should have something that looks like this:
This pic is of the prototype belt shown with the buckle in place. (In this prototype I used a shorter backplate/cover which I can supply as well, but feel that the longer one is more in keeping with what the real belts looked like).

NO PM’s please, use the email address.
Thanks.

Henry,
I'm so glad you approve.
I sent you both size backplates as well so you can decide which is best for you. The smaller one is about 7 inches long (roughly) and the longer is somewhere about a foot in length. (from my memory).
Enjoy them my friend.

Re: The Urethane straps for the Henry Wayne working Panther Buckle
I have been trying like heck to get this together before he went public with these.
I think that everyone is going to have to drill out and tap their buckle. I dont have any clue what kind of screw that is that comes standard. But i can tell you how to do it, and i have offered to ED that anyone needing it done, is welcome to send their buckle to me and ill do it for them free of charge. Will cost you shipping and there is a CMA of if it goes wrong, im not liable. (its super simple- but best intentions can often lead to misery)
Anyway-- To mount mine, i first drilled out the strap. This can be tricky as it is.. drill bits dont seem to work all that well- so youll basically be piercing it..
to hog out the holes on your buckle- is childs play. I think i used a .104" drill bit, but i should double check that- i think i sent the size to ED, perhaps he could confirm.. any way.. just go slow and take care to just go as deep as the hole was.
Then i used a steel 440x3/8" or 440x1/4" pan head screw- (again, ill check when i get home...) with a washer similar to these.
http://www.hot-racing.com/?partnumber=CW36808&c=205
the washers i had on hand were blue and i intend on getting chrome or black..
to tap the hole, i just used the screw. I turned it in a half turn then out a half turn.. SLOWLY until it was completely threaded in.
When i get to finish the belt, hopefully this week.. i will also use superglue to mount the strap to the belt. As well as in the screw holes.
EDIT to say if you look at the middle screw, you see how it sinks into the urethane.. this will pull through. The large washers add surface area and should be pretty sturdy..

I ask everyone who has Henrys Panther buckle to get at least one set of these. I have been waiting over a year for this and it is worth the wait. :up
