Give me till Monday and I'll post a DXF of the batarangs on a 9"x9" grid optimised to get the most out of that 1 sheet (at least that's what I'm reading as doable) I'll also include a three or four pack dxf version for those that don't want to test bigbluesaws generosity.

This was in the comments for their blog entry on the subject:

Question, Can we make as many parts as we can fit on a 9" by 9" sheet or is the excess material forfeit if our one part does not utilize all of it?

And Big Blue Saw responded:

Jeff: yes, your design can include more than one separate piece and still qualify for the Free Part Day discount.

So we're in the clear for cramming Batarangs on the sheet. We just need to be wary of complications in the design. Tiny holes and zig-zags aren't feasible, as the cutting tool for aluminum is .04 inches and the tool for plastic is .06 inches. Are the Begins-style Batarang ears small enough for that to be an issue?

I wonder how much "packaging and shipping" will cost.

I 'shopped the Batarang posted earlier to be compatible with their system and uploaded it, hoping to get an estimate, but it seems to be frozen up or something. I'll try to get an update on the costs.

I really need to stop checking out the site after midnight. Here's a dxf with 6 rangs on it drawn to the same specs as Eden's image on here. see the JPG for the layout (don't worry, the duck colors are just for graphic purpose). I'll try and get some fins up here as well. anything else some one needs?

I know, double post, but their system is working again so I tried the files posted earlier. archytextural, your DXF wasn't accepted by the system, something about open edges.

A single Batarang, at 5 inch width, would run $81.10, not including shipping.

So yeah, this free parts thing is a fantastic deal. I think every Brother on here should jump on this, it would be great to have a flood of cheap 'rangs for everyone.

Great find.
I would love to have some parts made.
Has anyone have actual cost for their parts
yet?

I just read over their FAQ and I'm gonna need to experiment a little to get this working right. There's a lot of restrictions on how you can even draw what it is you want built. So I'll work on this some more on Sunday. I'll keep trying, and we'll get it working.

Welp, they increased the restrictions.

Before, if the PPU was $15 it was okay. Now it has to be under $8 for them to accept it on Free Part Day.

If we optimize, though, it can be done. Two Batarangs connected tail to tail (easiest place to separate them later, I imagine) ran about $4 when I put it in the estimator. I, or someone else, will have to play around with some DXF files later so we don't have to worry about sprues or any connecting pieces.

the gauntlet fins is a good idea, seeing as how some of us will need twelve, now!

The fins would probably be a lot more doable than the 'rangs. Though the thought still frightens me... imagine all that could go wrong with a dozen metal blades attached to your forearms. :surprise

Has anyone given thought to a functional Begins belt pouch?
