Translucent TDK Parts

Well, I'm making the suit for the premiere here, it will be August 13th.

So question, I'm making silicone molds for urethane polymer. I have the black one for major parts of the suit, but can't find clear urethane. Only can find clear silicone, could it be possible to use it?

So if I use that can you tell me if the carbon fiber can be used when pouring the mold with silicone, to have the same effect. And if it's possible, what kind of glue can I use to glue the silicone parts on the urethane one, or perhaps better directly on the suit? Really don't know, cause I never use silicone, and think it can't be glued on anything.

Please help me before I make mistakes...

i'm gonna go with can't cast silicone in a silicone mold as they might fuse like most other molding/casting materials...

As far as I know the only thing that will stick to silicone is silicone but I was thinking of using latex when I start mine which is semi transparent in thin layers, if you do a very thin layer of latex inside the mold, let it totally dry then latex the carbon fiber on top of that with a few more layers on top of that to give it thickness. Other than that what about resin. The Pieces will be rigid but I dont think that would be a problem.

apparently, if i use vaseline, in the molds, the clear silicon won't stick, cause it's 2 different silicons...that what was told me by the seller, but i prefer asking before...and perhaps will try with a special little extra mold i will makeonly to see, but don't have a lot of time...

i thought about the latex too, and try but the layers need to be very thin, to be clear, cause i try with only 5 layers so about 3mm of latex, and the latex is not clear enough...and with less it appear that the carbon fiber are to close to surface...grrrrr.

Latex wont look like the Dark Knight suit.
Use Smooth On's Mold MAx 15 and it looks just like the movie suit (clear parts). If you have a degassing chamber, then great, if not then take extra care in mixing and pouring the Clear to avoid any airbubbles at all.
Release the hell out of the silicone mold and you wont have issues with casting silicone into it. Always do small trial and error tests if in doubt.

I think you would be better off using a clear resin of a softer shore.

judging by the pics i have seen, the carbon was done in a vacuum.. so making an open back mold might not work right.. and if your going as far as to use carbon cloth, you might as well do it properly.

My best thoughts on this are to sculpt your clear pieces and then curve out the backs at the edges. Pour the clear- let cure. Wet sand, make sure theyre perfect.. then cut out your carbon cloth.. cover it in the very same resin and press it into the backs. trim, cover back with resin.

Without a vacuum, the odds are stacked against you for a perfect suit.

I have worked with carbon in the past and you have to take care not to snag a fiber.. or it will all look like heck.. and it is nearly impossible to lay up something by hand, that is 3d.. and have it look like "show quality"

This is the very main reason i am putting off this suit until i have a little more experience in the whole craft. It is the most involved suit one could make.

Definitely dont want to use silicone in a silicone mold.

However some of Smooth-On's urethanes are clear. The one I know for sure is clear is their PMC-780. You might try that.
