Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
I didn't take a close up pic of the right hand side of the rear wheel, I thought I did, but it appeared to be shaft driven and only the rear wheel, not the front. I also found this on why the front tyre appears to be alot more worn than the rear:
Bruce Wayne's monster-truck tires worked just fine on the Tumbler, but integrating them with the Bat-Pod's steering system was "totally bizarre," Corbould says. At about 20 in. wide—enough to balance the bike without a kickstand—the wheels didn't look like they would go anywhere but straight ahead. "We skimmed layers of rubber off and then started changing the angles of the steering joints and things like that," says Corbould. But that didn't stop the rear tires from blowing in test after test.
At the suggestion of stunt driver Jean-Pierre Goy, the design team restored the rear tire to its original radius and modified only the front, allowing Goy to control the bike. Still the only one can actually drive the Bat-Pod, Goy refused to drive any regular motorcycles during filming—the Pod was just too one-of-a-kind, too confusing for other on-the-road styles.

Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
Wow! It looks VERY risky to drive all right, and motorcycle experts say it can't be steered by gripping and turning handlebars. There's too much resistance. Instead, it's done with shoulder contraptions and body leaning. I'd imagine Goy had to be very well paid!

Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
Found this on youtube about the Bat-Pod. You're right about having to use your shoulders and body weight to make it turn.

Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
There's been a series of 3 Batman exposed type programs running consecutively on the telly (History channel) all this last week.
One of which,in part, addressed the Batpod & it's manouverability issues, confirming that the only way to steer it is indeed with the whole upper body & it's weight distribution.
However, nothing addressing the front wheel issue, unfortunately?

Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
I had assumed the steering on the bike was hydraulic . That the piston extending turned the wheel right, and retracting turned it left. Any idea why else it is on there? Or is that what they want us to think?

Re: Bat-Pod pics pic heavy
Does anyone have any design prints for this thing?
--- Lieutenant, is there a six-foot bat in Gotham City? And if so, is he on the police payroll? And if so, what's he pulling down after taxes?
