After I bought a second cowl, I cut a small piece off of the ripped cowl and super glued it into the inside of the new cowl just above the velcro to reinforce the area. I'm still deciding if I want to try to replace the velcro with a zipper. Maybe I'll try it on the ripped cowl first... The bad news: while attempting to pull the cowl onto the head, the stretch hole (in one of the pictures above) that is above the velcro closure has begun to tear. Right now the tear is only 1-3MM in length and is pretty well going in a straight line. Before doing any work on this (ie. zipper or installation of a plastic mask) I think it would be best to repair this. I once read about someone in a similar situation using a type of tape and then spraying with plasti dip (or some type of paint/finish). I can't find the particular thread now so I was hoping someone with far superior knowledge can guide me in this. I'm gonna wait to do all of this (zipper and plastic mask) until after I get a mannequin head and after I have put the cowl in the clothes dryer. By chance did anyone find out how long and at what setting the cowl should be dried on/for? (I have checked around the boards but can't find the info). Thank you everyone. Mikey: When you say "cut the velcro off" do you mean rip the stitching out that holds the velcro pieces in place? Or did you literally take scissors and cut the velcro right out of the cowl (your picture looks like you did the former but I just wanted to make sure). nondisclosed_email@example.com (sin03)Tue, 05 Aug 2008 12:36:50 +0000 Re: Questions about Rubies "The Dark Knight Batman Adult Full Mask"https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107645,from=rss#post2107645https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107645,from=rss#post2107645 I had the same cowl and it was, luckily, not in that bad of shape when I bought it. The part of the cowl in the back at the top of the velcro was just a little ripped from other people trying it on so I got a piece of electrical tape and put it over the rip. It did the trick for the short time that I wore the cowl. Also when I plasti dipped it it kind of blended in.  I also had the same problem of not having something for it to sit on so it would fold like yours is doing in the picture.  These guys on here are great and very talented and within thise thread alone have provided some helpful hints!nondisclosed_email@example.com (LongHalloween)Tue, 05 Aug 2008 11:12:55 +0000 Re: Questions about Rubies "The Dark Knight Batman Adult Full Mask"https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107524,from=rss#post2107524https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107524,from=rss#post2107524When I used to wear it around sometimes I would just feel the velcro come loose, and it was always a pain having to just kinda guess that the velcro and mask lined up in the back, so I added a zipper to get rid of all these problems. First cut the velcro off. If you go to Joann Fabric's they have an entire zipper section. Grab an appropriate size, and just line the cowl up and start sowing :-P. Now did it make it tighter? No, but it made it more secure in my opinion. The only time I have noticed it has ever fit the best is when I let my hair grow out like to like 3 inches. I have curly hair, so it's like adding foam in there lol nice snug fit, but then I have to have an afro...I should start a thread about that lol AFRO = BETTER FITTING COWL!!! lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (MikeydeeBee53)Mon, 04 Aug 2008 22:33:04 +0000 Re: Questions about Rubies "The Dark Knight Batman Adult Full Mask"https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107357,from=rss#post2107357https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107357,from=rss#post2107357ILLJuan: No, once its on my face it seems to straighten out. Once you have got it soft you can then stuff the cowl with news paper or shopping bags and then sit it on a plastic bottle as a stand. The plastic or paper will help the cowl hold it's shape while the bottle holds it up. Hope that helps. As for how long to stick it in the dryer I am not sure. You will have to aske some one who kept the rubies cowl long enough :lol I got rid of mine shortly after getting it. :up nondisclosed_email@example.com (jedicoral)Sun, 03 Aug 2008 00:25:28 +0000 Adding zipper to Rubies The Dark Knight Batman Adult Full Maskhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107051,from=rss#post2107051https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2107051,from=rss#post2107051Hey Everyone, My question: I recently bought a rubies Dark Knight Batman cowl (Item #4507). Overall, I am happy with the cowl itself, but I want to do some work to it. First, I want to try and get rid of some the signs of "mistreatment" while it was being held at the store. I have noticed that parts of the molding have become flattened and some of the cowl's face is slightly distorted (looks like it needs to be pulled tighter to be straightened). Is there something that I can do that will fix the cowl? Also, any recommendations for storing while I am in the process of locating a mannequin head? Any other advice of recommendations? I've heard some bad stuff about rubies products but please keep the slamming to a minimum since this is my first cowl and will be my first suit that I put together.
