Batman 89/ Batman Returns reference material

As most of you know I am a Michael Keaton Batfan. I've been working on a couple different Batsuits for about 8 years now. During this time I've put together a book of reference material. Mostly color and black and white photos and all the magazines I could find. For some reason I'm totally facinated with promo photos and pictures of the characters, costumes, and of course the Batmobile. I really enjoy finding rare pics and adding them to my collection.

There's been one major complaint that I have had in my search. On ebay there are quit a few people selling 8X10s and press kits and promo photos. However most if not all of these do not have the color and clearity of an original photo printed from a negative. Most of this sellers state the the photo is original and not a computer print but it's obvious that a lot of these are really just blown up 4X6s that are of crappy quality. This really bums me out.

One day I would love to see the WB archives. I'd kill to see what they have left of all of these photos and production art that were created when making the films. That would be a real dream come true. I'd love to compare the real thing to my humble little collection. We got a taste of this when one of our members was working with Mattel on the 1:18 scale 89 Batmobile. He was able to share a few high quality photos that he got from WB when working on the project.

I'm also dying to know exactly what WB has left of the original costumes, cars and props from those old Tim Burton movies. I'm sure a lot of the people that work there don't even know what some of that crap is. lol. Somehow, somewhere, I believe that the reference material motherload is out there just waiting to be discovered and shared with fans such as myself. Hey, a guy can dream can't he. Does anybody else out there think about this kind of stuff? Can anyone else relate to the triumphs and disappointments of my search?

Yeah, I have dreams of Lucas putting out a book of just the creature costumes from the Cantina scene. All I want is some nice clean pics of the masks and costumes, and I don't think it's too much to ask.

We might not see eye to eye on politics all the time Jason, but we have everything in common in this area. :lol
I know exactly what you mean, and my biggest complaint is the lack of detailed anything from 'Returns'.

Yeah, good reference from these 2 movies is hard to come across.

I truly hate it when sellers sell blurry and blown out photos on ebay. I've gotten some sad looking photos that seem to be copies of copies of copies.

Ugh...

I'll scan some stuff in and let this thread collect a bunch of that rare 89/returns reference material!

By the way http://www.batmanmovieonline.com/ has excellent 89/returns galleries but navigating through them is a little tricky.

Ya know it's funny, all the bat fans I know might be ALL OVER the map as far as politics but we always seem to be of the "tough on crime" stance :) Since I will be starting academy soon (unless I don't!) I'll have to post pics of my "real" utility belt! Oh yeah, I think I just hijacked the thread.... sorry guys! Back on topic, I would kill to get some reference pics of original Keaton material, better than the crizzap they reprint on ebay for $5 so I'm all there with you. I just picked up Michael Gough's signature and well wishes matted with an 89 logo for $10 though! Treasures can be had :) Anyone comes up with an archive of spiffy 89/92 stuff feel free to email it to me! I'll have a garage in a week so I might actually NEED it! Now to track down some good waterclay....

Hey buddy,

Politics is politics. At the end of the day friendship is more important. If everyone agreed about everything it would be a pretty boring planet.

Anyway, one more thing that grinds my gears about the ebay photos is that they are usually cropped all funky too cutting out half of the picture. This stuff really irks me. A lot of this crap isn't cheap either. I've spent a lot of money chasing good pics.

Who was that guy who worked with Mattel anyway? Dave something? Seemed like a good guy.

On the plus side I've recently piced up a few press kit slides. I'll be more than happy to share them with the bros here if I can find a way to get them scanned or developed into real pics. I've shared most of my good photos over the years. If anyone here has anything that they've been hiding, please hook us up. lol

Exactly. Yeah,Dave is a cool dude,I wish he would stop around more.

He's the only one that I know on any kind of personal level that has actually seen, touched and handled the folding 89 batarang.
Without him,I would have never figured it out.
This is one of those props that nobody has ever been able to get their hands on. There are no copies of it like other props and all the replicas are wrong.
Not that they're not nice;just not correct.

Here's a cool piece that went through ebay.co.uk about a month ago and didn't sell because he was unwilling to ship it. Pickup only.

I would love to see someone tackle a 1:6 scale version of the two main Cathedral statues as a cool scuplting project. Wink Wink...

I'll try and post some stuff every night to keep this thread alive and kickin'.

Whoa! I'm loving that. That would be a very cool piece to own. The funny thing is you'd think that there would be more Returns stuff out there since they filmed in LA and not the UK. But no, it seems to be the other way around.

The statue was in the UK. I'd kill to have that baby in my office.

Okay a few more.

Living room, Dining room, arsenal!

I like how the two "arsenal room" pics are slightly different. In these photo sessions they'd blast a hundred photos and only use one or two for press releases. If anybody's got better scans of these pics I'd love to have 'em!.
