Re: A NEW foamies Batman Begins, begins.....
Hello again! ;)
To archytextural, First off, I’d like to personally thank you for posting your PDF templates on the suit. Your templates (reworked a bit to match my 6’2 statue) has really helped me and Azspidey on guiding this project along so I thanks you again!
To everyone else, thank you all for your words of encouragement! :)
Your comments are all motivating me to not just finish the suit, but to build a sort of step by step tutorial on how to finish an accurate begins suit on a budget with Foamies and converted Rubies gear.
With regards to my teaser pic of the armor, ALL questions in reference to it will be answered in time when Azspidey and I have all of the bugs and kinks worked out (there are quite a few) so please stay tuned in the coming week as your patience will be worth it. :) Besides, I’m still organizing all of my pictures along with a brief description of each step for the tutorial. Heh…
With this thread, (witch I’m hoping may someday be archived), I’d like to show any newcomers or veterans that with time and patience, one can build an accurate begins suit on a shoestring budget with no knowledge of sculpting or molding. I want newbs or veterans for that matter to look at the suit at the end of the day and say, wow I made my ENTIRE suit for less than 200 bucks!
And with this in mind, onto the next build. The boots:
These are generic police issue standard flat base boots that I acquired from my old Vader suit that I never finished converting (ha).
I wanted to keep to the authenticity of the movie, so with the help of batmanunmasked.com(R.I.P), reference photos of motorcowboys boots, and scratch built, hand drawn patterns, I was able to fully recover my boots using Tanners Bond Craftsman Contact Cement.
Most the fabric I used was found material at a local fabric store here in Phoenix (SAS). We first drew on the boot the basic design of the begins boot, and then traced the pattern onto paper. Next, we then used our hand drawn paper templates to the matched fabric and basically just cut, shaped, and glued using the contact cement. We then ran the material through a sewing machine to add to the look of it being actually stiched to the boot.
it actually worked out quite well, but it’s a bit stiff to walk around in. Not to bad tho. I know i make this sound easy, but it's something like 9 hrs PER BOOT. eek. totally worth it tho..see?
…more to come soon, stay tuned for the belt…

But seriously. Those look awesome. 18 hours was clearly time well spent when you get those kind of results!

Re: A NEW foamies Batman Begins, begins.....
Really great stuff. I'm looking forward to the tutorial as I have used faomies with a heat gun before but I didn't make anything as complicated as your armor. Boots look great as well. My boots should be here in a couple of weeks and I plan to modify them slightly, using similar techniques. Keep the posts coming

Re: A NEW foamies Batman Begins, begins.....
yo G,
for the perferated part of the boots, i used some kind of found material bought from our local fabric store (SAS). i'm not sure what the material was called, but it was found in the same section where you would find vinyl and pleather from. hope this helps.
to paint it, i used design masters flat black to match the rest of the boot. the paint hold pretty well...
