Making and mounting a Pleather Emblem with photos.
I was asked in a photoshop request thread on how I made the emblem I use for a comic suit. Since I've decided to go with a pleather emblem over plasti dipped foamie, I thought I'd take pics of the progress...
STEP 1
I chose the begins emblem (my fav), and copied and pasted the pic into paint. From there, I took half of the emblem, rotated it, and pasted that into microsoft word. From there, I enlarged the picture to my preference, printed it out and carefully cut it out...
sans the chalk marks...
STEP 2
I then took the now cut emblem, and placed on the back of my pleather material. From there, I held down the emblem with the best of my abiltiy, and went over it with a piece of chalk. I flipped the emblem over, line it up with chalk outline, and repeat the process. I then outline the entire chalk outine in dark pencil...
STEP 3
I carefully cut out the emblem, taking my time as I do so. I don't worry too much about the sides matchin up, as I just try not cut into the emblem itself. After cutting it out, I try to refine it, make it look the best I can, and come out with a pretty decent looking pleather emblem (IMO)
Hope this helps somebody out there

Re: Making of a Pleather Emblem...
Why only print half the emblem? Why not print the whole thing?

I like the have my emblem be fairly large in size. Priting one whole emblem only allowms me so much room on the page. By printing half, I can add or detract the height and width as a I please. I'm sure printing the entire emblem out would wor just fine.

Re: Making of a Pleather Emblem...
How did you attach it to the suit? Glue or did you sew it?

Re: Making of a Pleather Emblem...
I haven't acutally glued it quite yet...But when I do, I plan on gluing it down to a foamie pad of the same size and shape, then contact cementing the foamie down to the spandex top so that it still has the "raised" look, but doesn't retain such heavy creasing like a plasti-dipped foamie emblem would.
I did do a test glue down on an extra shirt I had to see if the contact cement would hold down the pleather emblem on its own, and sure enough, it workedjust fine.

Re: Making of a Pleather Emblem...
I used this technique too for my comic suit.
I glued it first to get it right when the suit is on me, then I sewn it it place to keep the edges straight.
