Foam latex/Urethane Begins Cowls comparison photos.
Lately I've been fascinated with foam latex, and just got a cowl from our friend Bob. Since I have his cowl in urethane and foam latex, I thought I'd do a comparison. Both cowls come from the same exact sculpt, but in this you can see what happens to the sculpt when the piece is ran in foam.

Upper front 3/4 view urethane

The most notable difference is the crown of the head, it is noticeably taller in the urethane version. The whole cowl is smaller, but that is the biggest size difference in my opinion. My hat is off to Bob for all the work this must have taken, and all the trial and error it took to get the final foam product to look like the movie cowl.
Other than proportions, the big difference is the feel of the material. It doesn't feel like wearing a rubber floormat on your head, more like wearing a ski mask. If Bale thought his foam suit was uncomfortable, he needs to try some urethane or slip latex sometime. :lol Since the foam cowl is made with a core in the mold, it feels like a second skin, instead of simply wearing a rubber shell. Some facial expressions can translate through it, like moving your eyebrows up and down.
When I have a little more time, I'll show what the inside of the cowl looks like, if anyone is interested. I "think" its a Bale head negative inside, from what I can tell of the nose.
I am so very pleased with this cowl.
Here's some shots of the inside. I couldn't get a shot of the netting reinforcement, the camera couldn't focus, too small.

Re: Foam latex - Urethane Begins Cowl comparison
very cool bro. Im interested about this negative head and that it would help translate some expressions. Both look good, foam def better. Urethane looks a bit longer on your face. I noticed this on mine some too, but my fatter head seems to push the cowl wider a bit. As much as foam seems the way to go, i do like having my urethane with the solid top and ears, really does feel like a helmet almost. Looking forward to getting on oneday though.

Re: Foam latex - Urethane Begins Cowl comparison
well the front view speaks volumes, the foam latex one looks a lot better, at least on these pics. the shape is more accurate. I guess some padding in the urethane version could help with that, but foam latex just gives a more authentic look, too bad its not as durable from what I understand.

This is a wonderful thread!
Has Bob ever thought about doing a foam TDK?

There are differences, but either one looks great on its own, so if foam is more comfortable, I say go with it.

Re: Foam latex - Urethane Begins Cowl comparison
Both of them look good but Im really liking the foam latex (it seems to keep the detail a bit better) and if its more comfortable.. SWEET!
Good Job,
Laura.

Major difference dude! Loving the way the foam looks on you bud.
Right away, I felt that the urethane looked really tight on you, making your eyes stress a little.
While the foam version looks nice and loose, comfortable even.
I want Bob's 89 in foam latex!

Re: Foam latex - Urethane Begins Cowl comparison
I also thought the urethane looked a little tight around the eye area and chin, maybe because the foam was more forgiving.
