Jordan VI Returns boots

I need to get started on making my Returns boots so I can finally call my suit 100% complete. I've done my research on the boots and found that the boot tops were actually suede like the Jordan shoe and not leather. I'm having trouble tracking down this material so i'm asking everyone here for help! Any of you fabric experts know where I can get some? Also, I have many reference photos, but you can never have too many so post any Returns boot pics you have. Thanks for all your help!

Oh yeah, I finally posted pics of my suit in the costume vault. View it here http://www.runboard.com/bbrotherhoodofthebat.f3.t208653

Yup youre right. Best I could ever tell they are one big boot unlike the 89 shoes. I think it looks nicer that way.

Is suede that hard to find or do you mean you cant find any that matches ?

Nike acutally calls this material "Nubuck" if that would help anyone track it down...

You can buy womens' jackets like that. I say get one in a big size cheap and slice it up for what you need!

Yeah, I have also searched in the past for this stuff.

Best to have boots in hand and take them around to fabric stores, thrift stores, or order lots of swatches online until one matches.

It is a very very low-pile synthetic nubuck suede that was very new at the time-- Nike has a trade name for it, and later a few othsr shoe companies followed with their own versions.

It would be great to find a near perfect match in a readily available source.

I am on my iPhone so I don't have pics available but I can say with near perfect certaintly that the boot tops matched the material of the shoe and were not smooth leather.

There is a shot somewhere from Nike archives that shows one each of the '89 and returns boots shot at the same time and you can CLEARLY see the difference in the finish.

Tony, you are right, it definitely was not smooth leather. It matched the shoe. I have that pic you are talking about somewhere... I am going to track down a material that matches. I'll be ordering lots of samples online and checking every fabric store that i can. I'll keep everyone updated as I search for it.

I've been saying this for years and people have been telling me I'm wrong. In the pictures I've seen it's pretty obvious that the upper "boot" matches the shoe suede or seude-like material. Nevermind the fact that it would only make logical sense for them to do it that way. I can't be 100% certain because I've never held them in my hand but I'm 99.9% certain.
