Re: functional 89 belt buckle

Now, several years before Henry's working buckle, someone on this board did a functional buckle out of resin. It's too far back for my old brain to remember who it was, but maybe they'll see this and chime in with some advice.

If someone were to take up where Henry left off and actually use his designs or reverse engineer one of his buckles, we'd have to make sure he gave his permission and blessing to do so...

Wow I almost forgot about his 89 emblem!!! I love that such a nice piece.
Matt (Jawa5) was the guy who first did functional 89 buckles way back, not sure if he would consider tham again.

Henry made an '89 emblem!!!???

That was the first thing he was offering. In fact I kept trying to win one on ebay and finally emailed him at which point I invited him here. And the rest is history.

Matt got that mold from Bob Dullam along with a strap with "rights" to offer them. I made all of his straps at the time. He since traded that set of molds away, I believe to LudaKris.

Re: functional 89 belt buckle

Yeah, Ed, it makes me nostalgic to see all this and to continue working with the two buckles I got from him and had brass-plated.

Henry is a very good-hearted guy and was taken advantage of by some fabricators that gave him less mechanics than he deserved, and painting was tricky because of the cast aluminum front and steel back plates.

I'm hoping Henry will return, and even if so, the buckle engineering IMO should be modified, with the outer aesthetics maintained and the mechanical guts engineered instead like a seatbelt buckle.
