89 Cowl - Cheek supports?

I'm looking for info on the Keaton cowl cheek supports... I've seen this mentioned several times on here, most notably in the Vin Burnham interview:

Quote:

PJW: Didn’t you also insert metal plates in the sides of the cowl to stop the cheeks popping out?

VB: Yes that’s right, it was kind of primitive, but it worked. They were just simple cut out pieces of aluminum sheet, glued in with 355 medical adhesive (legal in those days!), with a thin piece of kid leather over it, cut a little larger to cover the edges (which had been sanded smooth). So it was moldable to a certain extent.

There haven't been any pictures that I've found, however. Has anyone here done this with their Keaton cowl? Can you share any pointers/tips/pictures? I can sort of visualize what is being talked about here, but pictures/first hand tips are always a huge help :)

Thanks!

Shoot BatNar a PM. His first cowl (and I'm not sure about his others) had cut metal plates which were sanded and padded with foamies if I remember correctly! Good luck :up

Sometimes a cowl's mouth opening will constantly fold out and buckle awkwardly when you look up or down too much or even twist your neck slightly. My first cowl actually never had this support, which is the reason why in many pics i took, showed a lot of buckling (due to the cowl being too big on me actually).

My recent rd production piece i have on my avy is in the process of getting this done. I first tested this out using strong cardboard cut outs without any adhesive.
This showed me what I had to do for my jaw line before i use actual aluminum.

So instead of having a pointy looking chin/jaw line, you can have a more square shape no matter how you move in it. And the results are quite remarkable and very screen accurate.

If your cowl is tight around your face, then i dont think you need to add any more to it.
It might make it uncomfortable.
