Liquid Latex Armor
:batfly I'm very new to this, but have been doing some research. Is it possible to create a suit using just liquid latex and craft foam over a spandex style body suit? I read about layering latex over spandex/dive skin, placing craft foam 'muscles' over it, them 3 more layers of latex to create the core suit. Will that work? ALL advice for rookies helpful! Thanks. :guitar

Sure is possible, yeah! If you want to sculpt the foam easily, use green upholstery foam, then soak it in water and sand it with sandpaper while frozen to get the desired shape. You may also use a hotwire to sculpt it, but the fumes literally could kill you. Remember, latex will always show the detail of whatever is underneath, so have your base form smooth and clean before you start to latex it.
Your other option is, use two layers of spandex, with your sculpted muscles in between. You'd have to be good at sewing though..... lots of work.

If you don't want to brush on liquid latex you can always you Plasti-dip in aerosol cans. You can find that product in the spray paint section of your Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

I actually have a can of it. I bought some when I made my son his very own lightsaber hilt a few months ago. That was my first attempt at making much of anything since building models when I was younger! (Second actually -- previously did a Blastech e-11 conversion from Kenner model) Do you think that will work better than liquid latex? I found the dip to be a bit weak and subject to easy ripping.

I would think it would take several coats at least. Most people here that have latex costumes use it as a top coat on the armor.

Liquid latex can be sprayed, it thins with water.

Awesome costumes! What can you use as a sprayer? Something from hoppy store, or a commercial hardware store. Also, anybody have any input on this stuff?

Monster Makers has better prices than that website:
Monster Makers black bat latex
Shipping ran about $15 for a gallon when I ordered one last month... so that's about $50 compared to the $60 at the other link.
