Thanks everyone for the advice.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rohun)Mon, 23 Aug 2010 22:32:26 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210398,from=rss#post2210398https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210398,from=rss#post2210398Thanks for the help, bros. I'll try propping it up against the wall and see if that works. Rubber bands won't work because there isn't enough resistance in the ears. If it doesn't work I've got a back up cowl (the reevz year one in my avatar) that I can use for the convention.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rohun)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 15:24:10 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210369,from=rss#post2210369https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210369,from=rss#post2210369What inkmonkey said- you have to overbend it so that the ear will relax to the proper shape. Think about when you bend a piece of metal- you have to bend it further than what your desired result is, because of the tendency to spring back when the stress is removed.nondisclosed_email@example.com (mooslug)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 09:52:01 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210365,from=rss#post2210365https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210365,from=rss#post2210365Prop it against a wall so it looks more like this /_| You want to overbend it in the opposite direction for 24 hours or so. Then is should pop back into place. Has worked for me in the past at least. nondisclosed_email@example.com (inkmonkey)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 08:37:00 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210364,from=rss#post2210364https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210364,from=rss#post2210364I've noticed that sometimes when I have a cowl stored in a container, the tips of the ears will get bent and stay that way. I wonder if the reverse might be true--if you leave it in a container and shove it up against the side so that the ear is forced back up maybe after a while it'll stay that way. Or maybe rubber band the ears together, pulling the errant one back up. Just a couple of thoughts. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lrcrow)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 08:24:44 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210350,from=rss#post2210350https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210350,from=rss#post2210350I'm not sure if this would work or not. I haven't made anything like this yet but what about maybe sticking like a metal rod or something like that into it so it would stay in one direction no matter what. I use that for resin model kits so they stay on their base. My only fear with that would be the possibility of maybe making the ear break apart. Probably depends on the consistency of the urethane. I know heating works with resin model parts to get them back to their original shape, but I'm not sure about urethane.nondisclosed_email@example.com (silentknight229)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 03:01:38 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210346,from=rss#post2210346https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210346,from=rss#post2210346I thought about that but was under the impression it only works with vinyl, though I may be wrong. Anyway, I didn't want to try it and end up with a messed up cowl without knowing for sure.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rohun)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 02:45:24 +0000 Re: Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210344,from=rss#post2210344https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210344,from=rss#post2210344I'm no expert but have you tried putting it in a pillow case and throwing it in the dryer to heat it up, usually masks will return to there original shape when heated. Don't try it unless another bro agrees with me...nondisclosed_email@example.com (AlienFilms)Thu, 19 Aug 2010 02:28:37 +0000 Cowl : Bent Earhttps://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210325,from=rss#post2210325https://bbrotherhoodofthebat.runboard.com/p2210325,from=rss#post2210325Hey everyone, just wondering if anybody has had a similar issue and found a way to remedy the situation. I got a nice cowl I plan on wearing to a convention coming up soon. There's one problem, though; The right ear is bending outwards so I've got something like this going on: \_| Both ears are filled with urethane so I'm not sure what to do. I've tried taping it in the right direction and leaving it to see if it will bend back but it hasn't helped at all. Anyone know if there's anything I can do? I can't find my camera so I can't snap any pictures right now, but I will when I can. Otherwise it's pretty straightforward, the ear is bending outwards and it just doesn't look good at all.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rohun)Wed, 18 Aug 2010 20:45:54 +0000
