Re: Mounting Foam Latex Begins 9 Piece Legs and Extra parts guide.

i got your message. did you buy this directly from me off ebay? or have you since bought it from someone else? if you got it from me, i already included the filler for the legs and the paint to finish them off and instructions via email on how to fill, paint the pieces?

if you didnt get it from me so didnt get the paint or filler you can make your own paint by mixing acrylic paint and prosaid prosthetic adhesive. mix ratio is about 70% paint to 30% glue. you can thin it with water and apply it with a sponge to avoid brush strokes. the filler is made from the same paint mix but thickend with cabosil. the filler can also be used to fill the joins when the legs are mounted. be sure to wear the legs when they are glued to ensure there is no undue stress on the parts when worn.

hope that helps.

Yeh I'm pretty sure I got a hold of it from you Rich. The filler was included, but as i've stated I have no clue on the method of what to do at all.

I didn't get any email's or messages of you on how to paint/fill the pieces either.

I also have a few more questions as stated on this thread of other things. Wondering if you can answer or help on those also if possible please?

Hi, have a look in your eBay messages, instructions for paint and filler are there.

On the auction, there was a photo of the leg sections layed out in the order they need to be attached.

Uv rays rot foam latex, there is no rot on the foam piece I sent, you can tell rot as the foam starts to fell crispy. Best thing to do not display it in direct sunlight. Applying the paint will help as it will act as a barrier.

Was there anything else you wanted to know?

Just checked my messages and nothing there? :/

Do you have any knowledge about applying a solution or paint to the suit that can protect against the UV rays? Ive heard from a couple of guys who have heard of this method and they stated you were looking into it?

Also its my understanding that many of the Foam Latex suits in Begins had a final coat of paint that would match both the Suit and Neoprene undersuits, creating a common shade.

Do you know how this is done and what solution was used?

Thanks

There is a paint base that has uv stabilisers in it called imeriflex. You can get it from mould life but it is very expensive.my not sure why youdidnt get e last message but my I have copied it saves typing it again.

"i have included the filler and aint to finish off the legs. the filler is the smaller container.

its best to attach the legs to the undersuit before you do any filling. when using the filler, its best to do it in stages as it shrinks as it dries so you may have to go over it a couple of times, you can smooth it over witha wet finger.

paint wise, to get an even finish, its best to stipple it over with a sponge.

both the paint and filler are very sticky so be carefull that you finished the legs in a clean environment."

Not sure what they used, if anything on the production made suits I'm afraid.

Thanks for all that info buddy, much appreciated. No idea why your filler/repair message didn't get received. Hey Ho, another reason to think negatively of eBay.

Mounting the legs next week, so everyone wish me luck! Roping in the help of a few friends and heading out to one of there workshops for the day.

Also want to thank everyone via emails and on here for all the advise and everything with regards to this. Hugely grateful :up

I know I'm jumping into this convo late.

But I've been working with foam latex for years. Almost all the foam latex I use is for facial applications.

To assure you. There is nothing wrong with your foam latex Begins Torso.
Those are just birthmarks from your torso being molded. Not any foam latex piece is the same. Even from the same mold. There will be different markings, if any, just based on how it cured.

I can honestly say Foam Latex has zero durability. You must be very careful with it, seeing how you complete suit is made out of it. Any type of bump, or rubbing up against by someone in a big crowd or something could scrap or even rip the piece.
Best of luck, and it looks awesome!!

No worries for coming into the convo late Bro :)

Thank you for all the advice though buddy, unfortunately I am currently in the process of trading the suit as I simply do not have the time and funds to complete the project.

I did however complete the mounting process with loads of help from the Bro's on here which were all a fantastic aid when it came to helping, so again I reiterate all my thanks to those who helped me out :)

Now though I hope this thread could aid anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position in the future when it comes to dealing with Foam Latex.

Thanks Again,

Josh

Hey no problem! Your welcome.

I believe this is probably one of the best available threads to explain how foam latex works to a beginner with foam latex.

Wish you the best!
