[picture] Jim Lee sketch of TDK/Rises style Batman

I always thought Jim Lee was a genius, but just look at what he did with the existing batsuit design.

Simply gorgeous.

Jim Lee never lets me down...he always disappoints. I've never liked the guy's art. This doesn't change my mind.

It's better than the actual suit, but when your subject is a turd, you still end up with a picture of a turd.

I disagree. Think it's excellent work, very reminiscent of the current batsuit we see in the comic new 52 world. Love Jim Lee.

I don't understand everyone's hate for Jim Lee. I love his work. I think he has set the standard for modern comic art.

Don't get me wrong, I love some of the more artistically rendered works of others such as Greg Capullo. He definitely has a more cartoony style but it's REALLY interesting to looks at. They're two completely different styles. Lee has sharp, precise lines while Capullo or even someone like Tim Sale have a more stylized design. Both have merits and I think a lot of the Lee hate has come from DC's oversaturation of his work.

I just don't like his character designs. His proportions are just too weird for me. I'll give one example: his Joker. Lee's design for Joker doesn't even look like a real human being:

Compare that to the designs by, say, Lee Bermejo (who designed the Joker this way before TDK, despite what many say)

Or the design by Alex Ross:

And Lee's art looks like over-stylized garbage. But that's just my opinion, an opinion which causes me to dislike his work. His art always takes me out of the story. That, and he's usually teamed with a colorist who paints his work garish colors. Like I said, my opinion.

That and I'm pretty sure Lee only knows how to draw one face. Every member of the New 52 Justice League looks exactly the same:

And so do his X-Men

I sometimes enjoy his suit designs, but his faces always remind me of Liefeld and that doesn't help me appreciate his art. His work on Batman is fine but once I see him draw everyone in the DC universe I'm tired of him.

Can't speak for others, but my comment was about the (TDK) suit, not his art.

That's my only gripe about him--he's way overused. Almost every bit of non-movie Bat merchandise has his version of Batman on it--backpacks, notepads, washcloths, pens, etc.
