The BatBerry: My 89 Batmobile controlled by my BlackBerry

Hi Everyone,

I've been a member of this board for quite a while and have been working on a few bat related projects :)

I figured I'd give a little background of some of the Bat related things that I have fun with and then get into the meat of what this thread should hopefully contain.

I've been hooked on Batman since I saw the 1989 Keaton movie when I was 13. From that day on I knew that one day I would own that Batmobile!

I've been lucky enough to own one of David's UD Replica's TDKR suits and backpack. I hope to eventually build the "Cage" from the Dark Knight for display in my home office.

This past Halloween we got really far along in creating a LEGO Harley Quinn for my daughter but then had to abandon it. Go figure, she couldn't get up and down stairs LOL

My biggest current undertaking is that I'm in the middle of building a replica 1989 Batmobile that I call the BatBerry because the car's systems can be remotely controlled by my BlackBerry via Bluetooth :alert

I figured I would create a thread here to post updates for those whom are interested in following along. I'm about 2.5 years into the project now and its coming along nicely.

A little over a year ago I and a few others were approached by WB about being interviewed to be part of TDKR blueray extras for their section that they did on the history of the Batmobile. But, in the final hours DC squashed it because they had some litigation going on with a Batmobile kit shop. But below is some footage, minus the interview, that might have shown up for my car.

The car has come a long way since that video and if everything comes together, I hope to have it on the road by the end of this summer. I'm trying to make it very screen accurate but with some of my own flair.

I've created my own blog that covers my journey along creating this car. So if you're interested give it a read through. It's been a blast working on the car and just as much fun interacting with those who are interested in the project.

Until I have some new progress to post, here are a few pictures

So cool. One day, I hope to have my own 89 batmobile :). Question - for the machine fund, why not use an oxygen/propane mix for actual combustion?

The answer to that one is easy :)

First... gun laws in Canada are EXTREMELY strict, even for replicas. I've already had a few conversations with the local Police departments ensuring that the cast resin replicas that I have will not pose a problem.

Second... I don't want open flames or combustible compressed gasses used with the car. It's the same reason I went with a lighting effect for the afterburner.

Polyester Resin is flammable and the last thing I want is for the car to go up in flames. Especially if someone is inside.

It simply isn't worth the risk :up

Fair reasons :). Did you put an auxiliary jumper port on the exterior of the car just in case the battery is drained? Figured everything is automated so battery consumption might pose an issue.

Yup it has exterior jumper ports. The Arduino board that is running via Bluetooth draws very little amperage when idle. It can run on a single AA battery for a month or two.

Once the Bluetooth connects with my phone it powers the rest of the control board on and starts to draw 12v. The electronics are only switched on when I activate them from the phone.

I will also have a manual exterior canopy switch just in-case something goes wacky with the Bluetooth connection.
