I'm getting very close to having the fabrication of the dashboard completed!

I still have some mounting points for the dash face to create and re-shaping of the area around the steering column.. but it's getting close :)

It's nice to see the dash done this way. Looks very accurate. You should mold it and offer raw fiberglass castings to the other guys doing these builds.
Will you be adding any padding to the dash?

I don't think I'm going to be adding any padding, just covering it with vinyl. With it's contoured shape I want to have the vinyl stick right to the fiberglass so that it doesn't pull away. I have a feeling that adding padding wouldn't allow me to wrap it tight.

I've never created molds for anything before so it would be first for me.

The tricky part is that you need to embed the studs on the bottom side of the dash, which would be tough to accomplish with a hollow molded piece.

It was easier to secure the bottom piece and then add the top piece.

After a few days of hard work, the dashboard fabrication is now complete.

That was a lot of detailed work but totally worth it. There's lots of pictures on the blog :)

Now that the vents on the trunk lid are water tight, I've moved on to waterproofing the trunk opening.

Still some more fitting work to do, but so far it's turning out pretty darn good :)

Yesterday was spent reshaping the trunk lid so that it would fit better against the body shell.

I used the same process as the canopy to make relief cuts, pin the material in-place and then re-fiberglass.

Man that's a lot of work. It's coming out stunningly though. When are you driving it down to Connecticut? :wink

Yeah it's pretty crazy how much work is involved with the car.... Just take it one day at a time.

I don't know about Connecticut, my first goal is pulling it out of my driveway and around my block :rollin
