Need advice for birthday event coming up, any info helps!

Hey everyone,

So its my godson's 1st birthday coming up and his mother asked if I could make an appearance at his birthday, along with my friend who does Superman. Even though he is one, theres gonna be 20+ kids there ranging from all ages there and besides photos, I'm not sure what else I could do, since they asked if I can do some entertainment.

Maybe a Batman vs Superman performance ("Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" like the one from Warpzone on youtube) or since I play guitar I can play the 66' theme. I honestly have no clue what to do, and I know a lot of you guys have your own kids and definitely have more experience than me at this, so any information helps.

For a 1yr old there isn't much you can really do. Most Batman visits are geared toward older kids but if there are older kids there, here area few ideas.

I contacted a buddy and had him make up a few batarangs for me out of very flexible urethane. I did pass a few out at one party but found that will get expensive for each party. So, I make a request with the parents ahead of time that they have some sort of bad guy target "thing" set up where we can throw the batarangs. One dad had a tire swing dressed up as Bane. Another time, it was just a plain old target on paper glued to a fence. A lot of the time, a corn hole board is set up right and the kids eat that up. They get to throw at the targets and I keep my batarangs too! You can also offer small candies if they hit the targets.

Another fun thing to do is arm wrestle the kids for a prize.

Talk to the kids. Explain why its important to stay in school and exercise and discuss how you have no superpowers BUT you still do what you can to make a difference and so can they!

I also frequent the Walmart Clearance isle for small toys that I can hand out but also especially toys for the birthday boy. I found the Begins belts one time for $2 each so I bought 20 of them and gave those to the bDay kids. Then the other kids get trading cards or whatever else I bought on the clearance shelves.

I would stay in character as best as possible. I don't use the Christian Bale voice but I try to stay serious AND have fun at the same time. I wouldn't really do the guitar thing. Kids want you to be as real as possible and you'll come across the occasional brat that will come up to you and say "you're not the real batman" and proceed to punch you in the crotch. Yes, it happened to me. Just my 2 cents. Wear a cup.

Hope some of this helps!

That batarang idea is a good idea, I can run to party city if need be to buy the foam ones for the young ones and they can even keep them.

Expos have been good practice for staying serious too and interacting with kids. And rest assured, I don't do the Bale voice, since I don't wear that suit and it just sounds silly from me. Keaton voice works best but people always want the Bale voice I find. And yeah at expo I had that happen to me with getting punched in the crotch, so lesson learned.

So just interact and stay in character then. I'll do that. Crappy thing about being here in Canada is the limited amount of Batman things available so I might have to go the trading cards route or just buy small Batman themed knick knacks. Thanks for the response Tony, much appreciated.
