Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to start with the foam layout for the gadgets minus the emblem and belt, and figure out the rest from there. I do like the torso idea, but if I do that, I'm sure I'll want to put a cowl on it, then a cape... then it never ends :)

You don't need to tell me that twice :rollin

Refinishing my 89 belt:

Metal Henry Wayne buckle has been cleaned and polished with Brasso.

All new belt strap. Like the previous one, this is from the same original 1988 Chevy side molding material, but now I learned a little more about how to paint and lacquer, and polished it to a shine.

The inside of the strap has a very strong adhesive that is extremely difficult to remove. I tried all manner of solvents and Goo Gone, scraping, cutting, etc. In the end, the only way physically remove the adhesive would be a Dremel. So instead, I decided to leave it and cover the inside of the belt with a thin lacquer coat, which in 15 minutes completely dried and neutralized the adhesive. Then a quick spray of flat black, and another quick lacquer spray and it's perfect.

Next shot will have the 4 side pods attached.

I know the color is not accurate, but I like it.

That belt is gorgeous Greg.

As for the torso idea you can do it as a table top model, kinda like I did my battle damaged bust (used a short piece of Pleather for a mini cape).

I think I've figured out what my plan is. In this thread over at The RPF:

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=254597&page=2

Someone is 3D printing 89 Batsuit vaults, and I'm going to see if I can get one (or at least the door) in a larger size, and then design a display around that.

He's going to do a regular run in 1/6th scale if any of you have action figure displays that need a vault.

That vault is pretty neat. I wonder if the Henry Wayne figured would fit it.

Re: 89 Props (and display ideas needed)

Wow -- almost a year since I got back around to this. Finally designed the foam for the 89 prop set:

Image

I think it's going to be a display case somewhat like the suit vault, but scaled down to 36". And rather than have a suit in a vault with gadgets on the inside of the door, the vault will be entirely for the gadgets themselves, while still retaining the appearance of a big bank/submarine style vault door for the case itself. With a rotating wheel and locking pins preferably. That's still a little ways off.

It was kind of tricky getting the cutout patterns for some of these pieces, especially the speargun and gauntlet. The largest part of the gauntlet body is convex facing outward, so it doesn't need a shape for it. The shape just needs to hold the 2 gold "horns," the launchers, the vertical posts that the launchers pivot on, the handle grip underneath it, and the arm cuff section a few inches lower. I need to go back and tweak the details of the shape a little bit more for symmetry and clean them up, but this is basically it.

Since I won't have the bomb timer or Batmobile remote, I moved some things around from the original layout. And since my spears are short instead of long handle, I'm going to use 6 of them instead of 4 to get roughly the same spacing. Also decided to include the emblem at the bottom to 1) make the whole thing a little taller, b) round out the end for slight symmetry with the top, and c) it's a really really cool metal emblem and I have nothing else to do with it.

Still not sure if/how my utility belt will work into this project. It may just have to be separate.

Next update will be the finished cut foam with everything placed.

Now to get to work on that vault/door.

Greg,

That looks fantastic. The way you did the foam is very precise. Did you cut it somehow? or did you have I custom molded?
