New Here, Kinda!
I've been a member of this board for 10 years now but only lurked and never posted. I've had a makeshift Batman costume since 1996 when I got my first cowl (Rubies Sonar cowl). I later added the Rubies Returns cowl to my collection.
In 2004, I got my first law enforcement job and moved to a small town. On Halloween that year, I got on my roof in costume while my wife handed out candy. It was fun and had no idea what I had started.
In 2005, I got back on the roof again. I quickly noticed a lot of traffic on my street. I had to move my patrol car from the street and into my yard to make room. I also had to call some coworkers for more candy because we were running out. They ended up sticking around to direct traffic. It was shocking how many people showed up to see Batman. It was awesome to see and feel the power of Batman. A few days later a coworker told me his son wanted to go see Batman. He told him Batman was probably sleeping since it was daytime. His son actually believed Batman protected his town. I teared up a bit and felt great after hearing that.
I continued for the next three Halloween's I lived there. Many people came every year. For five years I was the Batman of that small town. I loved it.
I currently have an 89 suit that will be finished in time for this Halloween. I'll go into more on that later.
