Re: 80s Comic Version Batman

Ive decided to scrap the latex cape, its a bit to short for me and I dont like the look of the seams.
I have since see somone show a technique for creating a cape out of a single piece of fabric by folding and cutting it a certain way, so I plan to do this instead out of a single piece of blue faux leather. I have orded some samples to find the closes match to the shade of blue I want, so I will update as soon as I get the cape material.

This is absolutely awesome! I love the blue and grey suits. Can't wait to see this cape. What are your plans for gloves?

Thanks.
I have ordered some XL long blue plain leather gloves. They are elbow length so I can adjust them to the length I want. They are a womans opra glove which I found on ebay, they do them in a XL size and acording to their size chart they have a 8.5inch / 21cm palm which is a big enough palm size for me.
They are a dark blue but I have some blue and white leather paint to colour match then to my cape once I have the material to copy. For the glove fins I may cut them out of foam or I am thinking of sculpting them, making a mould and casting a set like I did for my 89 suit.
They should turn up next week so I will post pics when they get here. :up

OK this has been a little slow on progress while I was trying to find a suitable colour faux leather for the cape. I have the boots and gloves ready for painting blue but needed to the cape sorted first in case I couldn't find a good enough match and need to alter the cowls colour to match the cape. Thankfully I found a leatherette which is a very good match for the plasti dip flex blue I am using so things can get moving again. :dancespot

The material came yesterday and I couldn't wait to start, so last night I folded the material a few times, cut some pieces off and made a one piece seamless cape.

I plan to add some rods so I can do a full wing span so the ends dont fold over.

I plan to add a fastening system at the weekend. The material has a white fabric backing which I plan to dye blue, I have plenty of off cuts to test this on first.

Not a bad start on the cape for about 15/20 mins work. Hope you guys like it.

Looks Great Lee.

It must have been hard to track down a piece that long and wide.

Years ago I used a black King Size bed sheet.
My guess is that could be latex'd pretty well.

Cheers Ed. Its not as hard as I thought it was going be. Most leatherette I found is sold from 140cm wide rolls and is sold by the meter in one continuous lenght so I ordered 3m for about £18 which I thought was really good for a sheet almost 5ft wide by 10ft. I'm 6ft I so i would have liked it a little wider so the cape could be a little longer but this will do for now. I did find someone selling 170cm wide rolls but it was to dark a blue, but I will keep looking. Still £18 for a leatherette cape isn't bad.

Yeah a bed sheet would latex pretty well I would think, but I'm liking the ease of the leatherette method now after my last experience with latexing a cape. :)

Been working on my boots over the last few days.

Bought some black Gotham boots of ebay.

Image

Cut the strap off that went over the front as I didn't think that looked right for the version i'm doing

Image

Then painted them with blue acrylic leather paint.
