Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
Hi guys! Do any of you have behind the scenes photos or reference images of the Sonar lenses? I picked up a Sonar Cowl from Jamie and want to add light up lenses when it's on display.
I've been in touch with a guy who does custom light up lenses for Iron Man helmets, but those are flat, and he's not sure how he could make them curved.
So I was hoping if there are any BTS photos of the actual sonar cowl w/ lenses, it could help.
An alternative could be using the lenses from motorcycle goggles like these:
And here are Blu Ray stills of the sonar lenses:

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
I have glued sunglass lenses into cowls in the past but it was nearly 12 years ago and I really don't remember how I pulled it off without clouding up the lenses. I "think" I cut the frames in the center (above the nose) and removed the ear parts then glued to the frames. It was tricky business.

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
It's interesting that in the movie you can tell they don't actually light up. It's just texturing on the exterior of the lens some kind of semi-fluorescent material in a grid pattern; then they bounce a key light of blue off of it.
I'll be really curious to see how this could be done 'for real'.

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
Thanks for your suggestions guys.
I talked with the led lens maker. We're going to try with a pair of clear acrylic glasses (the kind you see in science labs) and then laser etch the lines on them. From there he'll so some sort of wizardry to tint the lenses and then add the electronics.
Stay tuned!

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
Maybe get the real deal Sonar glasses fully functional? Only need to paint the silver stripes on the glasses and put a hole into the cowl.

Ah, interesting idea Red! I had no idea a product like that existed. Those glasses cost more than the cowl tho!

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
Yes, I see Matt, to expensive, and you would have to put a hole in the cowl at a very difficult spot... what I wondered is that sonar is a sound and it does not need glasses with some kind of print on it, the cowl looked like the receiver are built into the ears and also the senders, so I wonder why they designed such strange glasses...maybe because of the visual effect, but its not needed...?

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
Maybe the glasses (and the screen on the glasses) were made to visualize the sounds, like in the Dark Knight?

Re: Batman Forever Sonar Lens Reference Images
I see, like some kind of monitor, or telepromter or HUD? Reminds me also of Iron man, also the F35 Pilot Helmet has some cool functions, but honestly I think the glasses are to close to the eyes but still I would find it very interesting to have a real sonar cowl! I love the design of the sonar cowl and you have a wonderful copy of it there! I hope to get one also in a few months, I am putting together a silver Sonar suit and hopefully it will be ready by March next year!
