What the BAT has happened to us?
The forums are dead. There are a handful of us still here but the majority of folks are on Facebook where the FB groups have taken over.
Recently, I've done 2 events with the 501st. Its a change from being solo and I've really enjoyed it. So I've started doing research into the 501st along with Ghostbusters costuming troops. What I found is they're all still using forums to stockpile information and to teach/learn. Those along with RPF are still alive and kicking.
So the question is... what happened to Batman? Did we just get wrapped up in the "cosplay" community which grew due to Facebook/Instagram media? Did we just get swept along?
I'm being nostalgic I guess.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
Seems that social media is the "in" platform to connect different parts of life and to interlock with "friends", its the new hype, but overall its a big illusion because you have to give up privacy and its not easy to find older posts or topics. I personally use the forums because I stay away from facebook. I will always invest my time to read here and to post here and to keep this place alive. It matters to me and I hope that it matters to others too.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I personally hate using F.B. but do to kind of stay in touch. I love the forums for research and seeing what others are doing. I do hope people do come back to the forums because I personally think it makes for a better community than social media.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
The Batman group I'm apart of has just been SWAMPED with the same suits, same questions over and over. I wish this place was back the way it was. It was just Better IMO.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I simply don't get it. I think that people have become way to focused on the "cosplay" aspect and not on the actual costume building. I get messages constantly asking for me to assemble complete suits. Noone wants to actually build anything anymore which is so funny considering there is a whole facebook page dedicated to building a better batman. Should be called buying a better batman. "how much is a complete suit with gloves, boots and the cape" has become the standard question I receive.
The end of Halloween cannot come fast enough.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I'd contribute more if it was easier to upload photos directly to the forum. The Facebook page is much easier in that regard.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I really hate to point it out ... but I honestly believe the times just caught up with the forums. These days, people refuse to even comment on other websites just because you can almost guarantee that no one is gonna read it.
I've been a member for a few years now, but I browsed the archives for much longer. Even back when I registered as a member, the boards were active ... but not like it was when the archive threads were active. I've been browsing the boards every single day, and I have no intention to switch to Facebook.
All I'm saying is ... someone could have easily called it just a few years back.
Again, I'm always gonna be around these parts ... and always staying positive that we'll be back to the glory of building and sharing pics.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I'm gonna weigh in here, if nothing else but to !@#$. And if Jason is reading this I apologize because I still love you like a brother but you made a major mistake and IMO single handedly killed this forum.
This place was still hopping and had multiple posts every day until a single announcement was made that BOTB was moving to facebook and that this forum was closed to new members. I immediately sent him a scathing email which resulted in him saying I could run the forum and he would take care of the facebook page. Sadly all he really did was give me moderator power and disappear. I couldn't open the place back up, change the layout or basically do anything. It took me a long time to get a hold of Brin and have the board turned over to me after which I and Jamie began changing things. Unfortunately by then this place was a ghost town and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to fix it.
Then to add insult to injury Photobucket changed their TOS basically killing all f our hyperlinked imagery. I tried to get a hold of Tim to get copies or to have him unlock his phorobucket so I could copy them all and "maybe" fix stuff (I'm no software guy) but there has so far been no reply.
I will say this, as mentioned, other forums are doing fine. I'm on the Jeep Wrangler forum and there's so much activity there you need to safe a link to a thread you start because otherwise it'll be on anywhere from page 3 to page 9 in less than 24 hours. Forums in general aren't dead, Bu this place seems to be. And honestly it really pisses me off. So much so that I only check in on the weekends now, otherwise it would make me nuts.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I wouldn't put all the blame on Jason. He did what he thought best to keep it relevant. There are a crap ton of Batman costume groups on Facebook now. I won't list them all but there are at least 5 I can think of of the top of my head, not to mention the multiple b/s/t pages.
Something I tried to do (and failed) with Behind the Mask was use the FB page to link to post on the forum. But again, people didn't care.
I just don't understand.
