Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I fear that our #1 advantage over all the other sites was our in depth and vast archival knowledge, which is now gone. Photobucket may be the death knell for this place. I hope I'm wrong as I've been here for a decade and have learned and shared so much about this hobby.
Like many of you, I have lost much of my own history due to this situation and would find it extremely difficult and time consuming to find and replace all my old photos.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
Maybe we can figure out how to rebuild the image archives. The images are still out there. Its just a matter of finding them and getting them up.

Sadly,,, Unless the OP's do it by moving the images and re-posting them I don't think anyone else can do it. You're welcome to try though Tony. I'll make you a mod if you like so you can edit other's posts.
Just remember, that would e your only job. I'm currently steering away from sanctioning anyone.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I'm really annoyed with the fact that photobucket suddenly started charging a whopping $400/year for third-party hosting. I can't imagine anyone being willing to pay that much, when it's so much cheaper to set up your own domain with hosting.
Retrieving images from photobucket can be time-consuming and tedious, but it can be done. I retrieved a few of the clickable smileys here to show you, and threw in Tony's avatar for good measure.
If you visit the URL of one of the images from the same browser where you found it, it will give you the error message because it's cached from seeing it on the board. You can view the image with a hard refresh while viewing it on photobucket, which you can accomplish with CTRL+R.
If you have more than one browser, you can save a step. Just copy the URL of the image in the browser you normally use for this board, then paste the URL into the address bar of a different browser (where these images won't be cached) and hit 'enter'.
I need to go now, but I can give you more detailed instructions later, if you need them.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
Ed/Jamie - would you guys consider merging the BOTB forum over to the 'DC Costumes & Props' section of the RPF? That section can be a tad sluggish at times, but if the members and info from here were merged over there it would certainly build energy.
The RPF has its own image hosting too, solving that issue. And the topics are much more substantial than what you're seeing on the BOTB Facebook.
Just a thought.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
I think most topics on message boards are more substantial than topics on Facebook. Facebook is fine for daily chatter and updates among family and friends, but I don't know why anyone would want to use it for anything that people might want to refer back to later, such as your archives that Photobucket pretty much destroyed. It is possible to get those images back, if someone has the time, a place to host them, and moderator powers to edit other people's posts.
Maybe I should look into starting my own image hosting service. I probably wouldn't do it for free, but there's no way in hell I would charge anyone $400/year for it. I'll start researching this possibility after Halloween. I know there are some scripts out there that would make this possible, so I wouldn't have to create it from scratch. Of course, one of you could always start up an image hosting site for BotB members, and you could accept donations to pay for it.
I have found some good information on The RPF this month. I will understand if you decide to move things there, but I hope you'll decide to stay.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
Thanks for considering that LG.
FYI, we won't be merging with the RPF. We either find a way to sort this place out or just keep it as is and hopefully people will some day come back and help rebuild. To be honest, I have about no use for the RPF. I have a membership there but have like 3 or 4 posts in like 6 years. I find the leadership there to be elitist and they seem to feel the have a right to police the entire prop/costume community.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
You're welcome, Ed. :)
The RPF doesn't sound very welcoming, based on your description. It's a shame, but I'm glad you have no intention on leaving Runboard.

Re: What the BAT has happened to us?
Tony's Ed's and many here's efforts have been noble and noticed. I knew years ago that fragmenting from facebook and the size of the internet/ world, was going to mess up good things that were already going. Who knows though, like fashion trends, it could come back around. Let me know if it does or if there is anything I can do to help. I liked the old world way better. Classics are classics because they have value that is intrinsic and can not be taken away. We are hopefully just on a shelf waiting for another day in the sun. We could make it what it needs to be again but there has to be enough of us and a commitment to purpose and approach.
