I think another reason Plastidip is used is because it does provide some UV protection for the latex.
And apparently it can help with latex allergy issues, if the latex is coated with Plastidip where skin comes into contact with it. I once made a latex Scarlet Witch mask for a guy whose wife was allergic to latex, but he said as long as I coated the whole thing well with Plastidip, she would be okay.
