posticon Why the Clooney Panther Emblem is loved and hated

Without question the Clooney Emblem of the Panther suit is very nice. Same time it is to dark to be really stand out on the suit.Posted 2 photos to show that the suit looks black but with lots of light the blue pigments are showing. Cape clips and Emblem look different in color , but that is because foamlatex is not as reflecting as hard resin. I really liked the version they did for the On-star commercials, but I like it more in the gold/ black tone of the Kilmer Panther. Some people love the overall black/dark blue look of the suit because its more realistic, more hidden in the dark. My take on this is the more colorful way, I re-painted my Clooney statue to make the bats stand out more.I even like the Kilmer Emblem on the Clooney suit. What is your take on that? Let me know, post pictures if you like.

Truthfully I like them all. At one point my plan was to have a Kilmer Panther a Clooney Panther AND an OnStar Panther in my cave. For lack of having help gluing up the suits it never happened and at some point I sold off all of the armor sets I had made up ready to go. (also I can't seem to get anyone to make me a decent cowl in latex that would fit my noggin.)

If you look closely, you can see that the hero Clooney emblem is glossy on the ring and bat with a matte background field. In most light, like this pic from Planet Hollywood, that makes the ring/bat look darker, and of course they don't match the matte foam latex.

Kind of a unique look, theoretically, but not very evident in the movie or most photography. I didn't even notice it until recently.

I don't think they did that on the Sharper Image statues from the time, which is how most of us think of them, probably. And the studio promo photos had such harsh lighting, even the more matte background produced a glare.

Wow. Tough to find pics of that old Sharper Image statue...

As an aside, I highly prefer the Clooney Panther cowl to the Clooney "Racoon" cowl they ended up with...

Thanks Tony, great input,I checked the emblem again and found a photo that I improved a little. I got more contrast and more color. I noticed that the backplate look like another color. Not sure about that, but maybe they sprayed it with a special clear coat, maybe its only the light and the metallic pigments ?

This image is from a photo of the original suit and emblem. I only gave more saturation to the colors and more contrast, but in fact its the color they used just much more intense. In normal light the suit will look black, but in spots and in direkt sunlight it will be a very dark blue.

I think they did most of it with powders but I could be wrong. Knowing that the suit was actually blue (though it does look black in the movie) the emblem is likely blue as well.
Maybe they did the ring and bat in black and the back plate in blue. I guess that's a possibility.

The Sharper Image statue is painted in a very dark grey with a little metalic pigments included, but its not the color used for the original costume, and the emblem was painted the same color like all the other costume parts. They used the wrong belt buckle (sonar suit). The cape is also much smaller than the original.
