fixing a brand new suit arrived, any tips or advices ;) ?

hello guys, totally new here i found your board on the internet and thought i could give it a go, we never know if someone can help :) ! sorry for any mistake in my writing as english isn't my native language.

Well without looking for drama and before asking for help let me present the situation quickly.

I had a panther suit during 10 years bought as second hand i sold last year, and wanted to look for a batman returns suit.

While checking on the internet i found a great looking one and thought i could give it a try even if it was a budget for me. I started looking and asked if there was any guys selling kits from Batman returns. At the end it was more expensive than expected and asked seller if he could be "custom friendly" lowering value for not exploding budget. Answer was no. An hour later i received a message telling me that i could order and put a word on invoice to avoid customs, so dream came true :) ! paid the 2200 usd straight exited as a child :) !

well speaking quickly during five months it has been problems after problems with communication with the seller. After a month i asked for updates with no rush no panic but as a prop maker myself i like to follow what i buy and also asked for wip pictures sometimes. Not for checking everything but also because i like to see and study how things are done. As a ghostbusters fan too, when i build a pack for someone it can take around 6 months of work, and i like to send pictures to people :) ! well i never got any pictures as the guys wasnt doing that, answers were generally very shorts if i got answers... suit bought in june in july i had a message telling me that it was nearly done and would be finish the second week of july... Well transaction after that is history, excuses after excuses, delays afters delays, the guy was sick, or havent material, or couldnt make the cape as he hasnt a big room to apply latex. i offered to receive what was done and would buy the remaining somewhere else with a partial refund. Offer not accepted...after quite a few messages, we were less positiv and didnt like the conversation ( the guy was nearly rude, always had a excuse, things were never his fault, and always acting as a victim and i was a bad and impatient buyer).
Around a month ago i asked for my suit or i would open a paypal claim. Strangely answer straight that it would be shipped the week after and that i should contact him one day before to check with him the forms to be "custom friendly as a reminder to him...

Well to go straight to the point and stop speaking about him i received a package yesterday with more than 300 euros in customs, the guy told me he never agreed on that and it was against the law (sigh i got all our conversation here) etc etc...

Let get to the point, yesterday i opened package it was a mess, no protection nothing everything put like that in a big box. I started to check every parts as my paypal guarantee end in a month, so don t want to loose it. Conclusion several problems on the parts and clearly not a 2200 (plus tax) purchase... rush job, defaults and quality issues... thats why i m coming to you to try fixing thoses with any advices as i never work with polyuréthane material.

my wife ckecked yesterday the gloves one is unsewed on fingers locations (cheap product), and resin parts are badly glued and badly painted.

mask got bubles and big dried drops in cowl but also around eyes, it s also have bad cutted material resulting with a few littles holes in cowl (noze).

i got disgusting white glue traces on boots

more important the returns torso is so thin as some place that i clearly see light threw it and don't want to press too much as i would finish on the other side. is there any product i should use to reinforce the suit, as i never use any of thoses material, and if there is any UE member in the community where to buy thoses products ?

i contacted the seller who answered me to paint the boots (lol), use rubber polyurethane to, fix thats all no more details for him it s normal ...I asked him if he could at last refund material to fix that i ll buy, i m still waiting an answer...

so my goal ll be first fixing all the parts and later see how to install it. I heard that some of you use glue and other ure bond. How does it work with urebond ? is there any tutorial for that technic?

Really hope i ll find help on that board guys, sorry for the longgggg post without giving too much details, it was also normal to explain where i come from. Also for people that would think im trolling i got pictures of the suit but also of my past conversation with the prop maker...Don't want a fight with him as he has been an ass with big ego, since the beginning...Only interested in having something good looking after all the stress as i haven't bought a 20usd figuez as i ve always said.

big thank you in advance :)

Dave

Hi Dave, welcome and sorry to hear about your problem. The price tag on your suit is very high! I personally had problems with a seller from UK lately and he claims to have great parts and is on ebay etc, but in the end he did not delivered... I recommend to post pictures here and maybe send the items back for a full refund of money, maybe PayPal or your bank can help you? I am a hobby-propmaker myself, and very interested in the items you build, do you have a link or photos? I know a lot of excellent costume-makers for Batsuits. It seems that you got very bad quality urethane and for that price it looks like a fraud.

my bad i created 2 times same topic :( ! well i do have a fb page to show what i do if you are interested :) !

also i m alreday at 2200 plus 300 euros for tax, if i send it back it ll cost me another 200 so nearly 500 that ll never be refunded :( ! seller ask me to paint the shoes in black and also to ship the torso but it ll be another cost, so even if i get refunded i ll loose a lot. I asked him at last to pay for material that i could fix myself...No answer since

Changed the location to the main forum because it will get more views. Also inserted your photos.
As for the suit as such: Overall the flaws on the cowl seems to be normal and easy to repair, but still the overall price for the suit is to much for the quality in my opinion. The cape looks strange, it looks like lots of material is peeling off. The belt looks good so far because the backside is covered by the cape, but still the price for this should be around 50-75$ in maximum. The chest looks good so far from the outside, the inside can be repaired with the help of a Dremel and additional urethane. The emblem also can be repaired but overall the suit looks like a second quality suit. The gloves are just horrible, sorry to say but those have to be replaced, there is no way that those can be changed.I would recommend to post the sellers name here and try to get some of your money back, I think you overpayed, but I do not know your deal in detail. Its always good to warn people of fraudulent sellers! For your hard earned money you got some kind of a kit, and you will have to put some work into it and I am sure that was not your intention.

Thank you for your time and patience. It has been sold as brand new and made for me by jester FX. There was no specific deal than only the custom at lowered value which hasnt been done Torso look good but really thin i put pictures of the light or even ly finger going through the torso. Well if you got any link about what i should buy as product for torso in Europe i would be really happy. Any advice tuto tips would be really appreciated as I never done that before. Yes totally overpriced in my opinion. My plan was buying to directly install on suit and expose in my workshop. I m far for that :((. Really hard to get in touch with jester as we had a really bad transaction. I just asked a partial refund to buy product but don't have any range price for that. He never replied to that. Sending back ll cost even more to me beetwen 2200 for the set additional 300 of tax and another 200 to send back. I can try a claim with PayPal but they ll ask me to send back. Paypal doesn't work with partial refund unless seller agreed. Jester is really hard to deal with neatly rude and really strange character. For him there is no problem and he isn't helping. You know all the story now. I feel just better to know that I wasn't nitpicking as I nearly thought it was my fault...

You can back the torso with urehtane foam. Smooth-On has some products. The cowl and cape will still look good on display because those small imperfections will add to a realistic look. I would also apply a little goldbronze color on the belt to get it darker and more defined. Most important for a display is the mannequin. Also a face cast would be helpful.Just use plasti-dip black on the boots. Even the emblem you can leave that way. Just make sure that there is no direct light source onto the suit, it should stand in a dark corner, so it will look much better. Add some decoration on the wall behind, like a logo, or Batarangs and a small light source and maybe a platform to put the mannequin on and you will be happy. If you are not intending to wear the suit its much easier to make it look great.

First when you get a defect product there is the bad feeling, but overall its up to you to do the best out of it. You have most of the parts. Therefor you just should start to make a decision to either repair the suit to use as a costume or for a display. Its important to have a concept before you start to work on the parts because the materials and techniques used are different. Those kind of sweatsuits are best used in colder times and in the night to have the best effect. You will need an undersuit if you want to wear it, and then mount the parts to it , and that is a whole other story. If you want to mount it to a mannequin permanently you may be lucky to find a muscular mannequin that you can spray paint with plasti-dip and then you can directly apply the suit to it without undersuit and without straps.
But it all depends on your final decision.
